Metzler to finish in fourth. The race also featured more excitement, in the form of Mark Fillebrown. who remounted his Triumph after crashing it going into tum two and continued on to finish the race in spite of his mishap, his left number plate flapping precariously. The Veterans' class was won by Yamaha rider Scott, while riders Goody Goodman, Bob Descenna, Bill Allen and Greg Pearson fought for second and third place. Second finally went to the Yamaha·mounted Goodman, with Descenna taking third and Allen fourth. Honda rider Todd Narduzzi passed Pearson to claim fifth place. Pearson finished sixth. Scott earned his second win in the Sportsman 750cc class. Second place was taken by Jim Monegan, riding a Yamaha, while Chris Shingledecker and Rob McLendon dueled for third, with the position finally going to Shingledecker. Fifth place went to Honda rider Daniel Weicht, who chased McLendon's BSA around the track for most of the latter part of the race. The Classic 250cc class was won by Bultaco rider Barry Baker, who passed secondplace finisher John Sova's Bultaco to claim the lead in the first half of the race. George Ackley and Mike Metzler battled for third until Ackley pulled ahead to claim the position, while fourth place went to Robert McLendon, who slid past Metzler's Triumph on the final lap, relegating Metzler rider to fifth. The big names of the day rode against each other in the Super Senior class. in which Jack Warren and Ronnie RaIl competed in a fierce contest for first place, trading leads sev· eral times and rounding several comers side by side. The win was finally claimed by the Triumph-mounted Warren, with Rail finishing second. Third place went to Triumph rider Melvin Brown, while Roy Hostetter, also on a Triumph, passed fifth-place finisher Gary Brennan to take fourth, making the race a successful endeavor for the British bikes. All in all, the day was a success, with no serious crashes and some entertaining racing for those spectators who braved the heat and choking dust, which was so bad that the track had to be watered after every third race. Save for the dust, the track was in good condition, with wide corners that allowed riders to leave their throttles wide open, and AHRMA officials intend to return again next year with a better water truck. After the final gallon of water was sprayed on the track, the final race had been run and the trophies had been handed out, the riders packed up their bikes and headed north for Ashland, where racing would resume the following night.
