Yamaha Dealers Series Round 3: Glen Helen Raceway Park These "Jarods" Are No Pretenders By JOHN BETHEA Motocross World: Adam Cianciarulo trounced the competition at round 11 of the Florida Motocross Series, winning three classes in Bithlo. By CRAIG JOHNSON BITHLO, FL, JULY 6 The Florida Motocross Series found itself at the beautiful track at Motocross World in central Florida. One rider who does very well every time he comes to this track is Adam CianciaruJo. This little speedster wanted everyone to watch him race three classes and win every single mota. The day started off with the 51cc (4-6) class, in which Cianciarulo won both motos. Halfway through the day, the 51cc Open (4-9) class was run, and the same thing happened. Then Cianciarulo closed out the day by sweeping the 65cc Beginner class. Watch out for this rider wherever he goes. In the first mota of the day, points leader Hunter Baker followed Cianciarulo home to the checkered flag in the 51cc (4-6) class. Baker's rival Tyler Oliver finished a close third, followed by Kylie Fasnacht and Jeremiah Cole. Everyone watched Cianciarulo motor away with the second moto. This time, Fasnacht beat out Oliver and Baker for the runner-up spot. With Oliver beating Baker for third overall, the points gap between the two is only one point. Cole rounded out the top five again. Cianciarulo rolled over the older competi· tors in the 51 cc Open (4-9) class. Points leader Kody Ketchum stayed in second all day long. Austin Cole took third in the first moto but scored a DNS the second time out. Hector Roman and Baker finished behind Cole in moto one and behind Ketchum in moto two. Moving up to finish fifth overall was Connor Henderson, with a 6-5 score. Cianciarulo was on a roll for the day, determined to be the only rider to win three classes. He first got on the Suzuki 65cc machine only a few months ago, and he already looks like a pro on it. The other riders didn't have a chance in the 65cc Beginner class. as he rode away with both motos. Cole and Darin Walker fought over second overall in both matos, with Walker getting the nod in moto two. Ketchum was fourth. and Ryan Baker placed sixth in moto one; then they switched places the second time out. Points leader Nathan Beauregard had an oFf day, placing fifth in both motos. Former points leader Brett Schacht returned to action in the Over 30 class. However, Schacht had his work cut out for him. Timothy Eggers won the first moto. followed by Arty Coker and Schacht. Eggers was a noshow for the second moto, so Coker and Schacht went at it for the overall. In the end, Schacht returned to the winners' circle. Points leader Jamie Metevier got third overall with a 5-3 score. cycle The Jacksonville wrecking crew of Coker and John Shields did some damage in the Over 35 class. Coker won both motos, over Shields. Points leader Tony Gallardy rounded out the podium in both motos, and Mike Mezie took fourth both times out. Shields came back in the Over 40 class to show 'em who's the boss. Shields beat Gallardy each time out, and Brett Garavalia was third in each moto. Pete Zarcone finished fourth in the first mota, ahead of James Hamer. Zarcone and Hamer switched places in the second moto. Derek Hall, T.J. Tiffany, Dean Dyess and J.B. Ballard continued their dominance in two classes each. On the minibikes, Hall won the all four motos in the 65cc (10-11) and 65cc Open classes, while Tiffany swept the 85cc (14-15) and Supermini motos. On the big bikes, Dyess won everything in the 125cc B and Youth (12-15) classes. Ballard was the fast man of the day, taking all four motos in the Four-Stroke and Open Money classes. Motocross World Bithlo, Florida Results, July 6. 2003 (Round 11 of 141 SAN BERNARDINO, CA, JULY 6 Fans of the popular NBC series "The Pretender" were entertained weekly by the enigmatic leading character known only as ..Jarod" (played by Michael T. Weiss), who would "play" his foes as if they were on a string, brilliantly staying one step ahead of them while accomplishing his goals. This weekend, Glen Helen Raceway fans were entertained by two other"Jarods" (same pronunciation, different spellings), and these two were no "pretenders" - each was the real thing. Jared Minor sped into the lead in both the 125cc and 250cc Intermediate classes when it counted the most, winning the second moto in each to capture both events; however, he had to come back from first-race runner-up finishes to achieve his goals. In the 250cc contest, A.J. Steinbach weathered the brief battle with Minor to win moto one, but the two Yamaha riders traded positions in their second encounter, giving Minor his first overall of the day for John Burr Cycles, the leading shop in the series thus far. Minor then faced off with the other"Jarod," Jarred"Jet" Browne, in the 125cc Intermediate class, producing the best racing of the weekend. Browne, riding a Suzuki under the West Coast banner, stormed into the lead of their first slugfest with only one lap to go and held on for the victory, with Minor close behind. They again locked throttles in the Schoolboy contest, with Browne emerging as another round winner, giving him the edge as the second sets of motos began, The two "Jarods" met again in the Schoolboy final, and Browne continued to be the dominant force, wresting the lead from Minor and securing the overall sweep. With each sporting a victory. the second 125cc Brace was to be their "tie breaker," Browne again stormed into the lead, but an early spill destroyed his chances at a perfect day; he slid all the way back to ninth in the moto and could only manage sixth overall. Minor was right there to take over, and his 2-1 performance again prevailed. Picking up the slack in the field of 20 racers was Montclair Yamaha's Ricky James, who has had a strong change in his attitude lately. When the series began six weeks ago, James' opening ride was a runaway win in the first C-c1ass moto, which prompted officials to advance him to the B class, and he reacted with anger and frustration. This day's second-place finish showed that he has adapted quite niceiy. By the way, James also took third in the Schoolboy class. After topping the l25cc A class, Kawasaki jockey Justin Buckelew's bid for a twin win fell short in the 250cc A class. Terry Fowler, a two-class champion from last year's campaign, quickly took command and won the first moto, and he then coasted to the easy victory, as Buckelew failed to start the next round. Fowler also added a Junior Vet A-class victory to his series resume. The father-and-son teams of the Tedders and the Dowells scored heavily at round three. Matt Tedder bagged two more wins, as usual, topping both the Vet and Senior A classes, while his son Dakota won the 65cc (9-11) and other son Maxwell placed second in 50cc Stock (4-6) competition, behind KTM rider David Fullmer. JBC Yamaha rider Phil Dowell pounded his body into a state of soreness while taking second, behind Fowler, in the Junior Vet A class, as well as third in the Vet A contest. Matt Dowell scored a triumph in the 85cc (12-13) class when he beat the alwaystough Trent Pugmire, but then he had to settle for second. behind the Kawasaki-mounted Pugmire, in the Superminis.
