Glenn Campbell ~-=:Tbe For all ttlose riders who complain about having to ride ttle occasional back-to-back motos, Kevin Brown .......cs to be everywhere at round eight of ttle AHRMA Speed & Sport National V1m.ge IIotoc:raa Series: He rode six ElIpIlI't classes on a varletii' of Pentons, from 125cc: to 400C:c. He won the tough Sportsman 250c:c Expert c.... and placed in the top four til every ottler ra«:e. furious and continuous, as the AHRMA crew worked hard to keep everything on schedule. They also kept an eagle eye out for too-anxious riders who tried to test the rubber band's elasticity before it was time to go. The penalty for getting caught was a lap docked from your score, and a large number of riders earned this dubious reward. If AHRMA had an Ironman Award, Ohio's Kevin Brown would've won it, racing six Expert classes on a variety of different-sized Pentons. Kevin won one class and never finished lower than fourth in any of them. First to the line were the Sportsman 500cc crowd, always a fast bunch. In the Experts, Indiana's Eric Muffley was perfect on his 1975 Kawasaki KX400, sweeping both STORY AND PHOTOS BY MARK THOMPSON LEXINGTON, OH, JULY 20 id-Ohio has become AHRMA's premier Vintage event of the year, and the annual Vintage motocross on the last day of the AMA Vintage Weekend was the usual stunning success story. Perfect summer weather combined with a long, grassy track although devoid of anything you could call a "jump" - drew 500 entries for 15 separate races. Heavy rains the week before provided a deep mudhole turn on the back half that befuddled some riders, but Claude McElvain and his crew otherwise provided a blindingly fast course with lots of little surprises to keep riders on their toes. Ubiquitous Mr. Brown motos ahead of Brown, on his Penton Mint 400, and North Carolina's Tom Boyd, on another '75' KX. For the Intermediates, Michigan's Ben Wanke, on a Suzuki, went 4-1 to collect the ,,"overall in a very crowded class. Dan ing from just down the road in anesville, Ohio, put together 2-3 finJshes on his CZ for second, ahead of Fred Anton, on another Suzuki, and Maico man Dave Curci. Race two brought out the Premier 500cc and Sportsman 250cc Novice riders, with big British thumpers the rule in the Premier class. Chad Mcintosh from California aced both motos of the Expert class on his 1960 Matchless, ahead of fellow left-coast· er Kelly Shane, on a 1955 Ariel, and England's Mick Andrews, on a 1970 Matchless. In the Novice version, Dale Kuykendall put his '57 BSA in front both times, ahead of Del Grogg's '56 Matchless and Don Freeman's '53 Matchless.' Meanwhile, in the crowded 250cc Novice match-up, Jim Gilbert went a steady 2-3 on his Can-Am to collect the overall, ahead of North Carolina's Terry Evans, on a Bultaco, and Ohio's Eric Katzmeyer, on a '74 Honda Elsinore. The Classic 125s filled two start lines for race three. Ohio's Robert Miracle and Brown battled away, with 'AHRMA's oft-road czar, Dave Boydstun, demonstrates 'how It's done on his R1clumln Montesa in Classic 250cc action.
