dominant in both Classic '60s divisions, with Paul Lima getting the win in Classic '60s and Robert Goodpaster taking the Classic '60s 650cc win. The only race for the lead came in Historic Production Heavyweight, where Suzuki 500cc riders Keith Sutton and Eric Kalamaja traded the lead, with Sutton coming up with a close win. Race 11 combined the modern two-strokes, and Chris Hurst and Richard Kjar put on an excellent show in Battle Of The Twins Two-Stroke. The pair crossed the finish almost side by side, with the win going to Chris Hurst's Yamaha over Kjar's Aprilia. In the Honda RS 125-dominated Sound Of Singles Two-Stroke, Drew Swanson got past Todd Puckett for the win following some close racing that also involved Turkington and Gregory Halenda, who finished third and fourth. While Springsteen ran out in front of the Formula Vintage field, the real race was between Moto Guzzi-mounted Charles Cole and Peter Hurst, on a Triumph. Late in the race, Peter moved into second and stayed there. Class champ Al Charles raced his Ducati to the Super Mono win. The day's final combined Sound Of Thunder and Battle Of The Twins Formula Two. As Tackett rode his Suzuki to an uncontested Formula Two win, it was Aprilia pilot Podolsky earning the Thunder win, over Honda RC51 rider Hord. Behind them, Hatten battled to third, ahead of Kris August, and Wally Schlepper narrowly earned fifth, ahead of Al Charles and David Johansen. Podolsky and Hord, with Podolsky this time earning the win after passing the Honda rider midrace and opening up a bit of a gap. Suzukimounted Tackett took another win in Battle Of The Twins Formula Three, this time with John Staska in second. Two-stroke denizen Rick Merhar made an appearance on Sunday and rode his '72 Yamaha to an easy win over Breckon's Can-Am. Roper had no difficulty repeating in the 250cc GP class, as Turkington moved his Bultaco up into second by race's end. Auer and McLean battled early on in their Class C race, but eventually McLean got the Norton out front and pulled away. Indian man Harding doubled with a win in Class C Handshift, and Hurley did the same in Historic Production Lightweight. The Sportsman 350cc contest was anything but cut and dried. Steve Brown had his Honda out front for the first couple of laps, only to lose position to Kinsey. On lap three, Orloff went around both Steve and Kinsey to take the lead. But that didn't last long, as Kinsey regained the lead and Orloff put his Honda on the ground coming out of turn 11. From that point on, the race belonged to Kin- was leading David Crussell in Formula 500cc, and Stanley Lipert and Todd Narduzzi were arguing over the Sportsman 500cc lead, when a red flag brought the race to a halt. On the restart, Spargo kept ahead of the Kawasaki rider for the final three-lap sprint to break Crussell's nine-race win streak. In the Sportsman portion, the race ended with Narduzzi's Honda just ahead of the BSA of Jagger. Race eight, with its potpourri of classes, saw Hatten earn the Super Mono 2 win. Murray and Marquardt fought over the Vintage Superbike Middleweight lead, with Murray getting the nod. Joyce doubled in the BEARS division, and Dennis Parrish bettered De St. Croix again hammered the 350cc GP field. while McLean dominated Classic '60s and Eric Kalamaja rode his Suzuki to the Historic Production Heavyweight win. In race 11, they picked up where they left off on Saturday. Sound Of Singles Two-Stroke saw Puckett hounded by Halenda until, on the last lap, Halenda made an awesome pass and hung on for a narrow win. The previous day's results were reversed in Battle Of The Twins Two-Stroke, as Kjar held off Chris Hurst for the win. Springsteen rocketed to the Formula Vintage lead over Peter Hurst and was headed for a clear win' when a crash brought out the red flag. AI Charles doubled with a win in the Super Mono portion of the race. In the weekend's final race. Podolsky's Aprilia was unbeatable in Sound Of Thunder, while behind him August got around Hatten to earn second for the day. Battle Of The Twins Formula Two, meanwhile, was one of those it'snot-over-'til-ifs-over affairs. Derek Keyes spent most of the race under pressure from Tackett, until the latter fell in turn 10. Then class champ Tristan Konnecker moved his Suzuki up to challenge Keyes, only to see Keyes pull off with machine trouble on the final lap. At the checkered flag, it was Konnecker all alone. ROUND 14 On Sunday, they lined up and did it all over again. At most venues, AHRMA runs a pair of rounds of its National Series - although at MidOhio, the large entry, higher crash rate and time constraints can make it a rush to complete the full program each day. The organization experimented with spreading a single round over two days at Mid-Ohio and awarding double points, but for the past two years it has reverted to the usual schedule. In race one, it was again Parker winning the 200cc GP over Craig Congleton, and McLean winning the Pre- 1940 portion over Auer. Battle Of The Twins Formula One was another excellent race between Honda riders Wes Orloff (74) and Tim Kinsey (578) had a couple of excellent races in the Sportsman 350cc class. sey, with Steve Brown a distant second. In the Formula 125cc portion, Turkington got his second class win of the weekend. The 500cc Premier class belonged on this day to Mooney, while second went to Roper after De St. Croix ran into problems and was credited with an eventual 11th-place finish. Larry Poons worked his Seeley-Matchless around Auer to earn third for his efforts. In Production Singles, T. Bruce Brown again earned the win, over Stalnaker and Thomas. In race seven, Christopher Spargo Saturday's third place in Superbike Heavyweight with a win on Sunday. Joyce made Springsteen work harder in Formula 750cc, taking the lead at the start and staying there until the fifth of six laps. The dirttrack legend then moved to the front and maintained a small gap over his fellow XR rider. The Sportsman 750cc race was just as riveting, as Murray and Temple renewed their battle from Saturday. Temple stayed in front all race, but at the checkered flag his Yamaha was just a bikelength ahead of Murray's Triumph. cue I e Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Lexington, Ohio Results: July 19-Z0, Z003 [Rounds 13 and 141 Saturday· Round 13 PRE·1940: I.
