Aztalan Cycle Club Short Track Hundertmark on the inside for the win. In the main event, Vrana put in a strong ride and took the win. Mischler paired his second-place finish in the first heat race with another in the main. This time around, Hun· dertmark stayed in front of Voight for the last three laps of the race and took third. At exactly 9:58 p.m., the last rider of the evening crossed the finish line. two minutes before the track curfew. It had taken a little over 3 1/2 hours and 47 races to run a tacky groove into this slick but smooth short track. It was well worth the effort. Results Saturday Night Short Track Fever! By MARK WOLBRINK LAKE MILLS, WI, JULY 12 The District 16 Dirt Track Series came to the Aztalan Cycle Club's short track on Saturday. July 12 - in force. AI and Judy Sumner and the Azzy crew were able to deal with the large number of competitors, and in the process offered the spectators a night of racing that was even hotter than the roasted corn! Multiple heat races fed the t 7 main events that were required for all the different classes, which included the Classic Sprints, Open Twins, 505cc Pro and Knobby classes. The Knobby class was a "run what ya brung" affair, open to members of the host club racing motocross bikes. Both the heat and main offered a fair amount of excitement for Lucas and Sara Zimmennan. as they were out racing with the big g'uys, such as Mike Zimmerman. In the Classic Sprint class, Mike Connel continued riding like the guy with the numberone plate. as he won both the heat race and the main event. Tom Cole spent the entire heat in the second position, leadjng Ron lancaster. Later in the evening, Lancaster returned the favor: He rode the main from green light to flag in second place. directly ahead of Cole. With a field of old-school hotshoes, the Open Twin class always puts on an great show. Saturday night's second heat race featured an exciting ride by Tony Berger. Finding himself in third after the first lap, Berger steadily worked hjs way past Mike Duval and John Hundertmark, the eventual winner of the main event, to take the heat win. One lap into the main, Berger again found himself in third position, but he was unable to advance. He finished his night behind Hundertmark and Steve Captain. The final class of the night was the 505cc Pro ciass. The first heat race had been uneventful. with George Istuanek. Dan Mischler and Kyle Meiers owning the top three spots. The second heat race started with Justin Voight taking the holeshot, followed by Hundertmark and Dan Vrana. By the third lap, Voight found himself behind Vrana. who was now in second and chasing Hundertmark. Voight kept on the stick and was able to work his way back around Vrana and into second. On turn four of the white-flag lap, he passed Lod! Cycle Bowl: Lodi, California's own Albert King has taken home four first-place trophies in the last two weeks. On this night, he won the l00cc Stock B and Vintage Over 50 B classes. the second spot. Sean O'Connor and Scott Hampton Jr. took home the tall brass in the Pee Wee Stock Band C classes, respectively. Brian Martinez continued his winning streak in the 60cc C class. Runner-up Jake Strong has picked up his pace a bit since returning from the Amateur Nationals with a fourth-place plate. Michael Avila was first in the 60cc B class. Tony Davilla won the 60cc A class. In the 80cc A class, Davilla got the holeshot and rode hard to finish in the third spot. behind brothers Cody and Kyle Anselmi. This seven-rider race was fast and competitive, as Cody took the front spot and Kyle battled with the other riders for the second spot. Garrett Slate took home the tallest trophy in the 100cc Youth C class, in front of Chris Ferroni, and also finished first in the 80cc C class. Winning the 100cc Stock A ciass was Lodi's own Albert King. He got the holeshot and rode a great race, leading from start to finish. King came back to take first place in the Over 50 B Vintage event. On a winning streak, King has taken home four first-place trophies in the last two weeks. Dewey Quinn was first in the Open B class, and Toby Trana held the first spot from start to finish in the Open C contest. Robert McDonnell was first to the finish in the ongoing Vet Over 40 competition. Mark Biscardi finished second. McDonnell earned another first-place trophy. in front of Robert Bacosa and Biscardi. in the Vet A event. The Open A race was very exciting, with Marty Weisler getting the lead off the line and riding in front throughout the race. Behind him were Bacosa, Mark Corsetti and Nick Moore. Corsetti worked hard to get by Bacosa, trying to go both under and over, but Bacosa moved just enough in either direction to hold Corsetti up. Riding closely behind these two, Moore was also working hard to find a way by. As Corsetti and Bacosa battled each other, Moore moved up to the outside of the line and held the throttle until he got by both of them. Gaining ground. Moore gave it all he had - only to suffer a flat tire on the back straight and finishing last. behind We isler, Corsetti and Bacosa. 50 SHAfT: I. Dustin Cassidy; 2. Cole Baker: 3. logan Ddo\aa: 4. JULY 12 As the sun set. the racers got ready for the gate to drop for round 12 of the Moto-Madness Series. As always, the track was prepped and ready, and the signup lines were long. The summer days are hot in the South, but so are Saturday nights, as the racing keeps the temperatures high. As the first set of motos came to an end, so did the racing. As at the last round, the heavens opened up. and heavy rain and thunder and lightning kept this evening's race to one moto per class. At least enough races were in the books to call it a full race, The 50cc (7 -8) and the 50cc Open ciasses were the property of KTM rider Hayden Richardson. The second-place rider was Timothy Thorn, another KTM pilot. Gilberto Lopez was third, doing his part to make this the first all-KTM podium of the evening. Austin Elder answered the call in the 50cc Open event with a strong second-place finish, showing everyone that his summer vacation was over, and Thorn finished out another all·orange podium. JULY 12 "Fast Andy" Fortner picked up yet another of many Fast Time awards at the Pleasure Riders hillcJimb on Saturday night, July 12. Riding his Honda CR500, Fortner sailed over the top of the 150-foot hill in the first round in 4.267 seconds to set the fast-time mark going into intermission. His ride was barely good enough, as Jared McKay posted a 4.270-second time on his first ride. McKay charged the hill hard on his second run in an attempt to overtake Fortner but went too far vertically off the second breaker and looped his KX500, crashing hard at 70 feet. His first-round ride would, however. hold up for second place. Just to show his ride wasn't a fluke, Fortner ran again and blazed over the top in a crowd-
