Are You The Top Kid Of Motocross For Your Age?
PLASTER CITY, CA, JULY 12
Joey Lane beat the heat and the rest of the
pack for the overall win in the Sidewinders
Motorsports AMA District 38 Sidewinders
SSummer SSSizzler. Lane got in 10 laps and
finished the European Scrambles~style race in
one hour and 26 minutes as the temperatures
soared from 82 degrees when the green nag
dropped to 94.5 at the checkered flag.
Pete Andrassy took the holeshot and was
followed by Adrian Collins and Lane through
the first checkpoint and lap one. Collins took
over the lead on lap two and pulled a healthy
lead, but by lap three he had dropped out with
a blown rear shock. After that. Lane took over
the lead and never looked back.
"We ICollins. Andrassy and Lane] had it
pinned through the first checkpoint," said
Lane. HSince there is no prerunning lof the
trackl allowed, none of us really knew the
course. I was content to follow Collins. We just
rode smart that first lap. By the second lap.
we knew the course and had it throttled the
rest of the way."
Later in the race, Andrassy got caught up
with Serina Item when she crashed on lap two.
Andrassy picked himself right up and finished
second, not losing a position. Item battJed with
a fouled plug (which stalled her bike several
times) as well as the crash but went on to win
the Women's class and finish 14th overall.
getting in five laps.
"'I really liked the course." said Lane after
the race as trophies were handed out in the
sweltering, 105.3·degree heat. "It was techni·
cal and not real fast. Since there is no prerun·
ning allowed, the course isn't as rough, and
it's fair to all ~ even for those who don't get the
chance to get out and prerun."
Jerry Jones, Steve Carver and David
Campbell rounded out the top five.
Sidewinders Motorsports will officially go
