intermission. It turned out very good for the main events. Nine riders lined up for the Open Pro main event. BilJy Hoffmeister took the holeshot, ahead of Crown Funding's Eric Brouhard and Pro Sport rider Shawn Burr. Burr took his Honda around Rotax rider Bouhard and started chaSing down Hoffmeister, who was also on a 600cc Rotax. While trying to pass the veteran rider in turn four, Burr went down hard, and the race was red-flagged. Burr was not seriously injured, but the race was called. The 250cc Amateur class was a very close race between Team 81 rider Troy Solnitzky and Josh Koch. Solnitzky edged his Honda ahead at the checkers, using a big drive out of turn four. The pair was closely followed by Chris Laubersheimer, riding a Honda. and 125cc Amateur race winner Darick Pearson, on his Kawasaki. The 505cc Pro class was won by Yamaha rider Willie Broten. First, Broten struggled with the track conditions in the Open Pro and 505cc Pro heat races, finishing poorly in both. In the main event, though, Broten took the holeshot and led every lap. He was followed by Wade Wessels, who made the trip from Galesburg, Illinois. Wessels, a new Pro Sport rider, rode his Honda to a strong second-place finish, ahead of up-and-coming rider Jacob Mataya, on his Suzuki. pleasing 4.1 OO-second time to nail down the 600cc-c1ass win and the Fast Time award. Fortner wasn't done yet, either, as he came back for a second win in the 750cc class, riding his screaming triple over the top in 4.465 seconds to round out a perfect night. Paul Hillard was second with a 4.627-second time on his triple. Brent Bowman has been coming on strong in the I 25cc class. and he grabbed his fifth consecutive win on this night - but he had to work for it. Bowman and Josh Mingee turned identical 4.880-second rides to tie for first, so there had to be a tie-breaker runoff. Mingee turned a good 5.1 16-second time, but Bowman crested the hill in 5.005 seconds to take the win, stretch his points lead and keep his win streak alive. Butch MFearless" Fetters has been all but unbeatable in the 600cc Four-Stroke class. The National Champion in the class, Fetters got third on the first climb of the year, but he has won evecy event he's entered since - making it I I wins in a row! His 4.325-second run on his first ride on his KTM 520 was good enough for this evening's win. as his closest competitor, Will Dalenberg, claimed second on his 450cc Honda with a 4.476-second second-round ride. CA, JULY 12 Making the transition from Intermediate to Pro is a big step, and it usually requires a few races to get the feel of things. However, DH Cycles/Posey Racing/JN Innovations/Alpinestars-backed Cory McDaniel found the move into the premier class to his liking right off the bat, as he earned an overall win in the 250cc Pro class at round three of the AMP Top Gun Summer-X Series. Having cut his teeth at AJII.P races for years, the Manteca resident has progressed very well, and following numerous battles with the likes of Eric McCrummen and Charlie Morrison in the Intermediate ranks, he made his Pro debut in a big way by promptly chalking up a 3-1 moto score on the night. In moto one, Rusty Holland dominated from start to finish, while Billy Jurevich, who has been on fire since the first round. kept Holland honest all the way to the checkers. McDaniel, who came around the first lap in third, held off the rest of the field with a solid ride and held on to the third spot till the checkers. In moto two, McDaniel snagged the holeshat, with Holland and Eric Nye right on his tail. However, McDaniel was up for the challenge, and he held off Holland for three laps. Then things got weird. as Holland went from first to last in two laps following several crucial mistakes, and the mota scores of the others were all over the place. McDaniel went on to take the win, with Nye and Brian Roth rounding out the top three. The win gave McDaniel the overall, while Blair (4-7) and Matt McCrummen (6-6) took second and third overall on the evening, respectively. Eric McCrummen made his first appear- Los Banos Fairgrounds: Cory McDaniel topped the 250cc Pros in his first-ever race in the class, at round three of the AMP Top Gun Summer-X Series in Los Banos, California. Results ance of the series and came away with wins in both the 125cc and 250cc Intermediate classes. However, a couple of riders gave the Team Green rider a run for his money. Steven Hernandez. Greg Karmann and Nick Markert all led at one time in the first 125cc Intermediate mota. Eric went down in the first turn and remounted dead last among the 12-rider field. However, he had made his way into the lead by the white-flag lap - but then slid out with just half a lap to go. Hemandez went on to take the win, just ahead of Eric. However, Eric rebounded in moto two with a solid Victory. Hemandez (1-2) and Markert (4-4) rounded out the top three. A.J. Perez was also on fire, winning the second 250cc Intermediate moto. While Eric took the first-mota win, Perez shot out into the lead in moto two and held off Eric for the whole seven taps. Stan Finney even got in on the action and made a last-minute pass on Eric for second. but unfortunately for Perez and Finney. they both got caught cutting the track and got docked a position. with the end result being that Eric went I-Ion the evening for the overall.
