MediCi Beat the Gate - under twelve (not racing) Free $25. 00 Heat! per Class Split Program By STEVE CARD ANZA, CA, JULY 5 In spite of temperatures reaching nearly triple·digit levels, a strong core of Vintage racers gathered at the popular Cahuilla Creek MX Park for round four of the 2003 CALVMX Vintage Motocross Series. For the hard·core racers, the biggest chal· lenge on this hot day was the 30-minute Ironman contest. Per tradition. all bikes had to have air-cooled motors and drum brakes; this was the day's ultimate test of rider and machine. At the drop of the starting gate, the mixed group of Vintage and Post-Vintage machines rocketed up the starting hill toward the sharp left-hand hairpin turn. Grabbing the lead coming out of the first turn was Yamaha YZ465mounted GP Intermediate racer David Ogilvie. Behind him, a duel was forming between Husqvarna rider Allen McKay and Maico man Dan McEnterfer in the GP Novice division. As Ogilvie began to establish what would prove to be an insurmountable lead, McEnter· fer and McKay engaged in their own private battle. Lap after lap, McEnterfer kept a slight lead over McKay. As the minutes ticked by, McKay slowly closed the gap on McEnterfer. With only a few minutes left in the contest. McKay's Husky finally got around the Maicomounted McEnterfer.
