White Brothers will begin official sales and distribution of the 2004 Alloy MX product line in September. - Ron Helms, the promoter of the Hall of Fame AMA Flat Track race scheduled for August 2 at the Oak Ridge Race Course in Arrington, Virginia, has infonmed AMA Pro Racing that "due to circumstances beyond their control" it will not be able to hold the race as scheduled. Consequently, the event has been cancelled. It is not yet clear whether or not this event will be rescheduled. AMA Pro Racing flat track manager Bruce Bober expressed frustration over the situation. "To learn of the cancellation at such a late date makes it very difficult for teams and riders," said Bober. "Everyone, including Ron Helms with Helms Promotions. has worked extremely hard to prepare for this event. and it's a real disappointment to remove it from the schedule." The National Promoters Group has announced that Olympic and World Cup skiing legends Phil and Steve Mahre will race the second annual celebrity athlete motocross promotion at the Washougal. Washington. round of the AMA/Chevy Trucks U.S. Motocross Series. a.k.a The Scott USA Pro Board Sports Motocross National at Washougal. presented by the NPG. Washougal's pre-race promotional event. a three-lap mini National that pits skiers vs. snowboarders. takes place on Friday on the pro track and is followed by another three-lap race on Sunday during the intermission between the Pro races. Celebrity athletes spend the entire weekend at Washougal, camping out and hanging with the fans, amateur racers and their families. " Repsol Honda's Nicky Hayden will team with fellow MotoGP rookie Ryuichi Kiyonari in the upcoming Suzuka 8 Hour. the pair riding a VTR 1OOOSPW in the race that was won last year by Daijiro Kato and Colin Edwards. Tohru Ukawa is also slated to represent Honda. teaming with Hitoyasu lzutsu. Hayden was one of the MotoGP regulars who took part in a two-day test that ended on July 17, held at the Bmo circuit in the Czech Republic. The fastest rider over the course of the two days was Camel Honda's Max Biaggi. the Italian setting a best lap of 1:58.8, well inside his 2002 pole position time of 1:59.646. Repsol Honda riders Valentino Rossi and Hayden both bettered their times from the first day of the test. with Hayden spending the majority of his time testing tires and getting ready for the Czech Republic GP, which takes place in August. "It went pretty good really," Hayden said in a team press release. "I knocked off some time from yesterday and overall enjoyed the test and learned a lot. Based on their 2002 results. 12 riders in the 22-rider field earned automatic seeds into the Qualifying Round of the 2003 series opener. With the exception of top contender Josh Larsen of Monrovia, California, who is sidelined by injury, all have accepted their bids. Under supplemental rules governing the championship. three additional riders were seeded directly into the Qualifying Round by AMA Sports: Schwartz. Tommy Hedden of Auburn, California. and Bryan Yarrow of Vacaville, Califomia_ The remaining eight riders in the field were invited by AMA Sports in consultation with its National Championship Advisory Committee. Those eight riders will attempt to advance through an Elimination Round which will open the night of racing on July 25. Just two of the eight will move into the Qualifying Round and join the 14 seeded riders. In the Qualifying Round. the 16 riders will compete in five heat races each. facing all of their opponents once. Results from the Qualifying Round will detenmine the lineups for the A B.
