David Gaylord didn't have the best of starts on this day. and he was forced to play catch-up the entire moto. "I had to ride really hard today." Gaylord admitted. "It felt like the bike rode me instead of me riding the bike. It took its toll on my forearms. They are really pumped up." Rose was all smiles in Victory Lane. "I got past Lorenz early on and just rode five good, hard laps and then put it on cruise control for the final 10 minutes," Rose recounted. "The track was in great shape for the event. The crew here at Dutch always has it in top-notch shape. My winnings are going to help me get to the Kentucky Regional next weekend. My goal is to win at Loretta's in the Four-Stroke division." Atco Motocross Park Jimenez Spins to Atco Wins BY MAn WOZNEY ATCO, NJ, MAY 24 With the threat of rain and some nasty weath· er conditions, there weren't as many racers as usual at the Atco Motocross Park. This race ended up being a mud race, as it drizzled all during the day. All in all, this day was going to end up to be an exciting one of sloppy and slick racing. One racer who showed everyone that the track wasn't sloppy or slick enough (for him) was Yamaha rider Bobby Jimenez. In his first year on a 125, so far Jimenez has impressed lots of people, including his competition. With many years of experience racing the Mini classes, the young Fox·spon· sored rider has the talent and the potential to beat anybody else on the track. On this day, Jimenez swept two classes - the Schoolboy class, and the largest class (with only nine riders), the 125cc C class - both with 1-1 finishes. Another rider who showed dominance at Atco was KTM and Yamaha rider Bryan Weimer, who took three wins on the day. He won the 65cc (10-11), 85cc (10-11) and 65-85cc Junior Supermini (7-11) classes. He swept his Junior Supermini class and went 2·1 in the 65cc and 85cc (l 0-1 1) classes. Going up against some pretty stiff competition such as Frank Lettieri, Tyler 'j/ozney and Mike Mackeprang - all of whom also ride at Atco regularly - Weimer was able to get what he wanted, and he sure earned it, taking three overall wins. Thor/23 Motorsports/FMF/Scott USAf HoJeshot Graphics team rider Wozney took home two overall wins, in the 65cc (7-9) and 85cc (7-9) classes. He went 1-2 in the 65cc race and an easy -1· 1 in the 85cc race. Head· ing to Pleasure Valley the next weekend for the Loretta Lynn's Youth Northeast Regional Qualifier, Wozney is prepared for that big race and to do battle with the top riders from around the area, and he's aiming to get a spot in the Loretta Lynn's Amateur National in early August. Another two-race winner was Suzuki jock· ey Danny Callahan, who swept the 85cc (12-13) and Supermini classes with J -I finishes. In the 85cc (14-15) class. Suzuki rider Brandon Taylor took both motos and the overall win, and he also finished third in the Supermini class with 2-3 finishes. Another racer who showed lots of speed at Atco was SinisalojMoto xxx. rider Mike Gri· chine, who took an easy 1·1 overall win in the 125cc B class aboard his Yamaha YZ250F. Since the 125cc Band 125cc C classes ran combined, the spectators saw some good racing from Grichine and Jimenez. Even though they won their respective classes easily, they were battling like they were in the same class, making that probably the most exciting contest of the day. Results 50 (7-8): 1. MAY 24-25 Derek Rose took home the big money in the SExtreme money moto, and he also won both days in the 250cc Expert division on his Honda CRF450R. Band E Honda was the title sponsor of the weekend's events, giving away more than $3000 in gift certificates, as well as sponsor· ing the SExtreme Money moto during Sun· day's half-time show. Saturday night's Hay Ride around a 10mile loop of the back sectio;'s of Dutch Sport Park was very popular with the younger racers, as well as the parents. Saturday's event was another of the year· long Women's Championship Series of District 14. The top three of the Women's Junior and Senior divisions are presented with some great awards afterward. The sponsors of the series are M and M Cycle, Torco Race Fuels. Fox USA, MCR, No Fear, and Frese Discount DC Shoes. Sarah Whitmore took her YZ into the winners' circle of the Women's Senior division. "I had a blast out there today!" Whitmore enthused. "The Akin family does such a great job with a class-act facility like this. It makes the women Iracers] feel very welcome and special to have an awards ceremony like this. I'm giving the HJC Helmet that I won today to my dad. I'm getting a custom-made, personal· ized jersey from Torco. I didn't think I was going to be able to race [SaturdaYI due to some jetting problems during practice, but we got it sorted out. Sunday, I rode Jason Cornish's YZ250F. I'd like to thank him and M and M for letting me ride that great Yamaha. The track was rough Saturday, and they put us [the Women's Senior class] with one of the age·division classes. It was great dicing with the guys." in the $Extreme moto, Yamaha-mounted Jecry Lorenz took the holeshot, and with it the S I 00 holes hot money put up by Band E Honda. The lead was short-lived for the Youth and B·c1ass rider, because Derek Rose passed (Soal· 16-24; 1. Derek Rose (Hon); 2. Mitch Dervin (KTM); 3. Judd BlIgllldi (Hon); 4. Eugene Olson (Yam): 5. Pat Petrillo (Yam). Dutch Sport Park Motocross: Jerry Lorenz (880) took home the S100 Holeshot mo'ney, but Derek Rose (98) took home the top trophy in the SExtreme money moto in Bloomingdale, Michigan. cue I e n e _ 50 JUNE 25, 2003 89
