Fetters Unchained!

CAYUGA, IN, MAY 25
ButcA "Fearless" Fetters was the fastest rider
at the Pleasure Riders Motorcycle Club hillclimb on Sunday, May 25. His fast time came
with his second·round-winning ride in the big
and competitive 600ee class, as he new his
KX500 high over the top of the I 50-foot hill in
4.295 seconds. It was a come-from·behind
win for Fetters. as he was mired in the middle
of the class with a 4.639-second first-round
effort. Jared McKay, the 17 -year-old young
gun from Neoga. sel the first-round time to
beat of 4.433 seconds on his KX500, and
"Fast Andy" Fortner bettered that with a sizzling 4.353-second run on his second ride to
take the class lead. But Fetters was even better, taking the class win and setting a fast time
no one would top.
Fetters wasn't done, however, as he
brought his National Champion KTM 520 to
the line in the very next class. the 600cc FourStroke class, and nailed that class win with a
good 4.493-second time.
Scott Petty followed up his triple win of the
night before with a double-win day on Sunday.
His first win came in the 750cc class on his
beautiful Yamaha twin, where his 5.054-secand run was good enough to beat the triples
ridden by Jon Creek and Paul Hillard as well
as Yamaha-mounted Joshua Brown. Petty
then claimed his second Senior-class win of
the weekend with a 4.36 J -second time on his
CR500 on his first ride. Mark Peters, carrying
the National number-five plate on his KTM
550, took second with a good 4.697 -second
ride after crashing at 97 feet on his first
attempt.
Ron Todd continued his unbeaten season
in the Super Senior (Over 50) class, carding a
good 4.632-second time on his KX500.
Defending champion Gayle Jenkins was second with a 5.035-second time on his CR500.
The "old pro," Jenkins, has installed an automatic clutch on his CR500 - and it really
hooks hard; the problem is, sometimes it
hooks too hard: He broke his chain three times
over the two-day weekend. If he gets that little
problem solved, he's going to be very hard to
beat this year.

Wild Wilderness Raceway
Skaggs Scrags 'em at
Friday Night Opener
By RUPERT X. PELLETT
LOGAN, OH, MAY 23
Chillicothe, Ohio's Nathan Skaggs opened up
the Wild Wilderness Raceway's new supercross-style track with an intense night of racing, as the Yamaha rider stole the show at the
opening round of the Wild Wilderness Friday
Night Series. Promoter Tony Kilbarger built an
entirely new track and lit up the evening with
massive portable lights as the series erupted
at this brand-new venue.
With the weather looking sketchy, not too
Wilderness Raceway, as the Honda CR85 rider
had his way with the challenging track here in
Logan. Formerly riding Suzukis, the talented
kid landed a second spot in the heavily contested 85cc (12- 15) group, finishing behind
winner Jesse Gustafson of Lancaster.
However. the Supermini class was all
about Brumfield. He owned the tricky circuit
and won big.
In the Money classes. once again it was
Nathan Skaggs doing the damage on his
Spinechillers-backed Yamahas. Skaggs took
home all the dough in the 125cc and 250cc
Pro races.
It wasn't a bad night for young speedster
Levi Kilbarger, either. The son of promoter
Tony Kilbarger had the track dialed and won
the Schoolboy and 125cc B classes on his
YZ250F.
