That alI-important second-mota score allowed Dreier to pick up fourth, thanks to Francis' sixth in mota one. Ivan Shultz was all business on this holiday as he took the win in mota one of the 125cc Novice class. Shultz then came from a thirdplace start in moto two and passed Michael Raines for the lead on lap two for a 1-1 sweep. Joey Bitto worked up to third after a fifth· place start in mota one, and he improved his score with a second in mota two for second overall after he passed Raines on lap three. after Shultz had already put a move on Raines for the lead spot. Brandon Strausbaugh rode a consistent 4-4 for fourth overall, over Sean Bailey (5-5). Micky Griffin was at ease out in front of both 125cc Intermediate motos, leaVing the rest to hustle for second best. Zac Wray finished well behind Griffin in moto two. ahead of Ricky James. who was bumped up to the class at round one of the Yamaha Dealer Series, making this event just his third race in the class. Aaron Gwin took a hard soil sample on iap one but got up to finish fourth, ahead of Ryan Magdenovski. Gwin kept it upright in moto two and trailed Griffin for third overall, as Wray kept an eye on him from the three spot for second overall. James slipped to fourth on account of Gwin's staying upright; he finished fourth overall, ahead of Magdenovski. who duplicated his mota-one score for fifth overall. Craig Williams came out of the gate in mota one of the Over 30 Novice class and finished in the number-one spot at the checkered flag. Mitch Lance fell on lap one but got up to pass Joe Acuna to bump him back to third. In mota two, Acuna got the drop on Lance and Williams for the top spot. Lance finished with another deuce for second overall, behind Acuna, whose more important second-mota win dropped Williams to third overall. This year, the FMf Team Race was run a little differently. The six-lap race would consist of each member of the two-rider team taking alternate laps for four laps. The final two laps would see each of the teammates in control, as their sidekick rode "rear saddle." Suzuki teammates Partridge and LaMay came from fifth place to take the win and the bragging rights. Brandon Strausbaugh and David Smith finished second, despite going down while riding together on lap five after they overjumped the step'up before the double/triple after the tabietop. Randy Hili and Ricky James finished third after starting dead last! Brian Ingram and Ryan Strausbaugh finished fourth overall, ahead of FMF's very own "UI' D" and Jason Partridge, who also came from dead last in the FMF Rider Dash to take the win. 84 JUNE 25, 2003· cue I e Pax rrax MX Park Facilities: Restrooms, concessions, play area.
