"I was looking ahead enough on the trait that when he [Hytinen) fell over in a rut, I was able to pop out of it in time to pass him." said Ingram of the pass that nabbed him second place; Hytinen pulled out of the rut quickly to come in third, 14 seconds behind Ingram. In the Mini A class, Lewis Motorcycles Sports/Pro Art Works/Pro Action Suspension· sponsored Suzuki rider Kyle Honeycutt grabbed the holeshot but took a spill in the first turn, causing a pile-up. As he was the first to fall, Honeycutt was the first to get going again, with FMF/Red Bull·backed Kawasaki rider Walt Payne behind him. Payne bobbled on the first lap, letting Honda rider Ryan Robbins and Kawasaki rider Nick Smith by. Payne moved back into second place by the end of the second lap, but he got twisted and shut down on a steep uphill. Robbins cruised into second, with Smith 22 seconds behind him in third.
