reclaiming a slight advantage speeding onto the track's back section. This part of the track had been well worked over by other riders, and wide lines started opening up for travel. Over the long uphill portion of the back section and back down the equally long downhill section, the pair did battle for the lead. Ziehm made a last-ditch effort, looming over the big tabletop with less than a bike's length separating them. Within a hundred feet of the finish line, it looked like Ziehm had a great line to make his move, but he lost his groove and grip at the last second. Lenartowicl claimed first overall, Ziehm settled for second overall, and Randy took third overall aboard his KTM. Ellison ended up fourth overall, TerWilliger captured fifth overall, and Ken grabbed sixth overall. Stephen Carlin was the quickest 80cc rider, followed by Chad Dunning, and the two outran all 125cc Beginners, Novices and Amateurs, while Jesse Repass proved to be the fastest among the 250cc-Open Beginner, Novice and Amateur riders in the dash for tires. All three winners won free tires for their three·lap shootout performances, and now it was the Mothers' turn! In the main event, six mothers threw a leg over some 60cc·80cc motorbikes and enjoyed some motocross fun of their own. Kim Nye won the special "Mudders Day" race, over Cindy Coleman, Debbie Dieter, Karen Salamone, Mary Lou Waif and Jody Zimmer. These ladies capped off another great WNYMA race day with a great race all their own. The next WNYMA event at Silver Springs Racing will be June 15, followed by one on June 29. Bremen GPGlPonca City Qualifier Bremen Race Parle Kelly, Lyle Smoke GPG Race Matthew Sa.. . age (Hon). By FAT BILLY BREMEN, GA, MAY 11 A great track greeted riders at round nine of the GPG Series. Saturday featured a Loretta Lynn's Qualifier, and Sunday's GPG had 467 riders signed up. The track was awesome, and clouds provided some shade. The classes were so large that many classes' practice ses~ sions were split up to keep traffic tie-ups at a minimum. As always, the track crew had the track ready to go. The 50cc (4-6) class was Cobra territory. Cobra riders Coleman Martin and Carter Old~ know dominated. Donny Brown kept them honest with a strong showing on his KTM. Kawasaki jockey Max Tannenbaum did the deed in the 50cc (7 -8) class. KTM rider Ricardo Rios took second place, and Cobra tamer Aaron Leininger took the final podium spot. The 65cc (7-9) race was a good contest, with 24 riders on the gate. KTM rider Brent Jernigan was the class of the field, taking back-to~back moto wins. Behind Jernigan, Suzuki jockey Chris Marie was second overall. It took a calculator to figure out the last podium spot; KTM-mounted Mikey Morello edged out Mason Jones with his last~moto finish. The 65cc (10-11) contest was a KTMdominated event. Jonathan Foskey won both motos. Kart Johnson put his orange machine in the second spot, and Trevor Shields took the last podium spot. First place in the 85cc (9-13) duel was handled by Suzuki jockey Jeffrey Petit, while Yamaha-mounted Jake Wilson took secondplace honors. Yamaha pilot Chris Coryell finished third after a good contest. The Supermini 80-1 05cc class featured 20 riders on the highly modified bikes. Kawasaki jockey James Ragsdale was top dog in this class. Michael Picone of the Suzuki camp was second, ahead of Suzuki-mounted Cody Miller. No Georgia boys were on the podium for this one. The 125cc A battle saw Yamaha rider Kyle Kelly rule the roost, over RHS Racing's Honda rider Dash Lyle, but Kelly had to keep on the gas to make it happen. Yamaha-mounted Lee Mullis was third after a strong ride. The 250cc A contest was a reversal of finishes for Kelly and Lyle. Honda-mounted Lyle was the man in the quarter· liter division. Yamaha-mounted John Melton took the final podium spot after a great race. The 250cc C event featured J 4 riders, and Honda rider Trent Cannon was the one to beat. Kawasaki jockey Anthony Duncan took second, and KTM's Keith Davidson got the last podium spot. The 250cc D riders put on a good show. with Suzuki's Scott Sims at the top of the order. Duncan came out ahead of Yamaha rider Chris Cotton for second. The age classes were the easy ones for a time, but the word "were" tells it all. Suzuki jockey Kevin Cozadd was the winner by being "Mr. Consistent" in both Over 25 motos. Honda's Mark Taylor was in second after win~ ning the first mota. Kelly was the winner of the last moto, but a soil sample in the first race held him back. The Over 30 class was Cozadd territory again, with Brandon Smith in the second position. Brandon Ghidiu of Titan Racing put down his wrenches long enough to get his Kawasaki in the final podjum spot. Rain clouds moved in during the late morning, and there were 23 classes, including the Loretta's classes that had been added to Sunday's schedule. After the first set of motos had been completed, the rain held off until the third mota of the second set. The racing was stopped due to lightning in the area, and the race was called shortly after. Having received seven inches of rain the previous week, the track could not take the extra water. The day's racing was safe. The only serious get-off was over the 90-foottabletop, and it took the medics a few moments to clear the rider; a round of cheers was heard when the racer walked off the track under his own power. Monticello Hare Scrambles Nelson Nukes Monticello By PAUL BLOYER MONTICELLO, MN, MAY 4 Larson's Cycle/KTM-backed Kyle Nelson started his 2003 District 23 Hare Scrambles season the same way he finished the 2002 season ~ with another overall victory. Nelson, who is District 23's reigning Enduro and Hare Scrambles champion, ran another one of his ultrafast races. Minnesota off-road legend Mall Stavish actually led the first lap with a 10-second advantage over Nelson, but his borrowed Honda XR650's clutch gave up the ghost early -- :~...
