PRO Northwest National MX Series Round B: Hom Rapids ORV Park Crater Leaves Holes By lEE 1.JVESEY RICHLAND, WA, MAY 11 Craig Crater took to the sand like a scorpion, stinging all comers in the 250cc and Unlimited Pro classes at the eighth and final round of Pacific Racing Organization's Northwest National Motocross Series. Tracy Johnson got the holeshot in the first 250cc Pro class. but Crater quickly dispatched Johnson, and Brandon Thomas got by him, too. Sean "Sparky" Sparkman worked his way up from dead last, but Johnson kept Sparky in check. Sparky would try the outside, but Johnson would duck under to keep Sparky behind. Crater managed the holeshot in moto two, allOWing him to open up a huge lead by midmoto. Thomas and Johnson matched lines but were unable to gain on the fast and furious Crater, who grabbed the most cash, followed by Thomas and Johnson. Crater did it again in the Pro Unlimited class, getting the lead from the first corner. Johnson, Thomas, Ryan Mortensen and Sparkman were all grouped tightly. Bikes were two· and three·wide through the air as their jockeys challenged for second and third. Sparkman was really smooth through the rhythm section, but Johnson edged him in an S tum on lap three. The first moto's finishing order was Crater, Johnson, Sparkman. Johnson stayed closer in moto two, but Crater was untouchable. Thomas got by a clutch-plagued Sparkman on lap two and managed to hang on for third. The top trophy went to Crater, followed by Johnson and Thomas. Royce DeVol nosed his blue thumper into the corner first in both 125cc Pro motos, but he lost ground to a hard-charging Johnson and Thomas. In moto one, Johnson favored inside lines. with Thomas railing the bigbermed sweepers. With DeVol on his fender, Johnson pulled for the lead in moto one. Thomas and Tyson Blood managed to wear down the newly charged DeVol in moto two, but Johnson stuck a wheel in the sand and tallied a DNF. Thomas, Blood and DeVol went one-two-three. The race of the day was the 125cc Juniors. Othello's Justin "Bad Boy" Benzel and Drew lvey battled all series long, and Cody "Bluejean" Denham was back off the injured list. Benzel got a huge holeshot in moto one, with ----• • • •1:1 Honda Vi 24 baolR lanlls OR ePI6lb-l~ arch 2 rd 7:30AM to 7:30PM 1 to 3 man teams 6 teams to make a class 4 MILE COURSE CII"I': • 251cc-OPEN Expert • 251 cc-OPEN Sportsman • 125cc-250cc Expert • 125cc-250cc Sportsman • OVER 30 Expert • OVER 30 Sportsman • OVER 40 Expert • OVER 40 Sportsman • IRON MAN...
