WERA National Endurance Series Round 3: Nashville Superspeedway By DAN SCHMITT PHOTOS BY ADRENALINE SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHY LLC LEBANON, TN, MAY 9 hirty-three teams contesting the WERA National Endurance Series rode into central Tennessee for the first motorcycle race on this ali-concrete track, one of three on the NASCAR circuit. Built in 2000, the oval track contains 7500 cubic yards of concrete. With the addition of asphalt in the infield sections, the road course's length became 1.5 miles. As usual, the riders were split when it came to their opinions of the track. Some hated it, some loved it, and some just said it was a challenge. With the flip of the green flag by Chuck Edgeworth, the teams charged down Pit Lane to the first sweeping turn. It was Tray Batey on the Vesrah Suzuki leading through the tight left and then the right-hand 180-degree return, another left-right-Ieft to the back straight. Team Xtreme I ran in second place. Brandy Champion, on the Team Info Tech/Valter Moto Yamaha R6, was right with them as they completed the first lap. With the shuffling up front, the T 52 ..JUNE 4, 2003' eye I e teams broke into personal battles for position. Team Info TechjValter Moto broke away and stayed right with Vesrah Suzuki. Army of Darkness moved to third as they passed Team Xtreme. Jeff Wyler/Blue Moto charged through the pack to overtake Team Xtreme II. Team Velocity Racing and Taylor Knapp/Ray C's Racing went at it in their quest for second in the Middleweight Superstock class. Paul Youngman, on the Velocity Crew Suzuki, traded places with Phil Caudill, on the Team Chicago Yamaha, for 10 laps, while B&S Racing charged from the second-wave start to move into 12th. John Jacobi (1). on the Vesrah Suzuki, leads Northern Getaway (39) en route to the overall victory at the third round of the WERA National Endurance Series. In the Lightweight Superbike class, Tight Squeeze II ran with the big boys to lead this class that's dominated by SV Suzukis. The battle for second in this class was between Tight Squeeze I and SVPerformance.net. Local heroes Brian's Motorsports bid for fame came to an end with a crash in turn two during the first hour that forced them to retire. The other Tennessee-based Middleweight Superstock team, Ricochet Racing, also retired, on the 50th lap. Caudill dropped the Yamaha Dealers/Torco Team Chicago R6 and rode back to the pits for repairs. As Steve Karson returned to the action, Team Chicago lost 17 laps on the leaders. When Team Info TechjValter Moto Rob Palmieri brings the Team Xtreme II GSX·R750 to victory in the Heavyweight Superstock class at Nashville Superspeedway. ne""s
