Gillespie took the lead from Rusty Lowry, John Bova, Barry Baker and Terry Waite. Baker took second coming off the fourth turn on the second lap, and he took the lead on the following lap. Lowry, Gillespie and Bova got into a closely fought battle for second during the next several laps. Bova took third and started fighting the Harley Sprintmounted Lowry for second. Waite took fourth entering the first turn on lap eight, while Lowry and Bova crossed the line side by side, with Lowry getting the nod. Hill, often the fastest rider on the track, almost scored the overall victory in the 125cc class, despite falling in moto one, and he might have, had it not been for not another "fastest guy on the track" . Browning. Wild Willy had been charging all day on his Moto Extremes Husky. Skaggs, who's always in the mix, had problems with his YZI25 in moto two and couldn't hold the pace of Hill and Browning. Hill won moto two, with Browning in close pursuit, and Hilrs 3·1 finishes were good for second overall, while Browning took the over· all win with a 2-1 tally. Skaggs was dynamite in the 250s, winning the first moto going away, while Browning bat· tied from way back. Moto two was all Brown· ing's. though, and his 2·1 score was good for the overall victory. The move of the day belonged to "King" Richard Robinson, in the Over 30 Pro class. After placing an uncharacteristic fifth in moto one, the King was charging in moto two, and he wanted a win. Every year, when Kenworthy's Motocross Park holds its initial race, there's a lot of lawn mowing to be accomplished. The entire circuit is a foot or more deep in wheat grass, and those riders who participate in the early morning practice sessions really get to chew up the new growth. This year, the Kenworthy family and their club decided to add a twist: running the track backward. A hefty crowd of more than 500 riders attempted to negotiate the newly con· figured race circuit. With full gates and tons of riders and more than 33 classes, the racing was fast and furious . none more so than in the Over 30 A class and in the talent-laden Pro classes. The Pro classes featured a fight of the fit and daring, as Yamaha-mounted Nathan Skaggs, F&S Suzuki's David Hill and David Whitcraft, and Husqvarna·supported racer "Wild" Willy Browning were all in the hunt for Kenworthy's Motocross Park: The Over 30 A class gets set to do some serious lawn mowing as Kenworthy's GP Club's annual Grass Race launches the season in Troy, Ohio. 72 JUNE 4, 2003' cue I e n e vv opportunity. and he launched himself between Kevin <;Remax" Hildebrand and Suzuki jockey Mark Kiser, sneaking home for a win. The daring move was shocking, outrageous and brilliant; the King shrugged it off. '" saw an opening, and I went for it," Robinson said simply. "Thanks to Classic Cycles and my pit crew for working on my bike. I'm hard on bikes - really hard." Hildebrand wound up the victor with a J -2 tally, with Kiser in second and the King in third. It was another amazing day for Prospect, Ohio's Zach Ames. The 14-year-old Mini superstar opted to challenge the big boys as he tested out one of F&S Suzuki's RM250 race bikes in the 250cc B class - a first for the youngster. Tearing up the grassy course, Ames jumped on three divisions of racers, winning three classes: the 125cc B, 250cc B and Schoolboy classes. "I'm getting too big for my 85, and F&S Suzuki's Ronnie Rehmert built us some fast Ibig] race bikes: said Ames, "so I went for it I" Over on the Pee Wee track, Jake Skinner was cleaning up in one of the 50cc Oil·lnjecl~ ed classes, while Gunnar Flavell took the other. Matthew Blum smoked the 50cc (7-8) class aboard his KTM, and fast youngster Darren Walsh tackled the pack of wild youth in the 50cc (4-6) category. Two Brothers Racing's Walker Brightwell snatched two class victories on the short course, topping the first 65cc division and the 85cc Mini Junior class. The other 65cc division was all about Larue, Ohio's Austin Primavera, who won big on his Suzuki. s 50 OIL·INJ 0-2: I. Gunner Flallell (Cob); 2. Jes5f: Walters (KTM); 3. Tyler Reno (KTM). 50 (4-6); I.
