Gatorback Cycle Park: Blake Koch (33) gets the holeshot In the first 125cc B Modified moto, ahead of eventual winner Kyle Chisholm (132) and the rest of the pack, at the Loretta Lynn's Qualifier in Gainesville, Florida. s.ra Loretta I¥nn's Area Qualifier 6atlIrbaell Cycle Parte Chisholm Breaks the Gator's Back By CRAIG JOHNSON GAINESVILLE. FL, APR. 26-27 Kyle Chisholm from Seminole, Florida, rode to five overall wins out of six classes contested. You might say the Kawasaki rider broke the gator's back at Gatorback Cycle Park, site of one of the few remaining Loretta Lynn's Qualifiers. This speedster took seven moto wins over the weekend, leading to victories in all the B classes and the 125cc (12-15) Modified class. Chisholm's only mishap was letting Davi Millsaps win the 125cc (12-15) Stock class on Saturday, in which Chisholm scored two seconds. On Friday, the facility was in fine shape for the morning and early afternoon practice sessions. A storm swept through after practice, and the Unlimited Sports crew went to work prepping a wet, soggy track for Saturday. The next moming started off a little muddy, but by the first motos the teamwork. high temperatures and sun made for an enjoyable race day. Over the weekend, 583 riders tried their hands at qualifying for the regionals in June. The first mota on Saturday featured the 250cc{Open B Stock class. which included some of the best riders in the Southeast. Jack· sonville's Zack Lundy jumped out to the firstmota win, holding off Chisholm. Quinton Bigalow got third. just ahead of Shawn Skinner, and Cole Studstill was filth. In moto two, Chisholm was ready to take his first overall for the weekend. and he did just that. beating out Lundy. Skinner tried to keep pace, finishing third. Bigalow dropped to fourth, and Dale Kump rounded out the top five. Chisholm's second win on the day came in the 125cc B Stock class, with a sweep of both motos. There was a three·way tie for second overall; Jonathan Camp got the tie breaker in the second moto with the runner·up position to go along with his fifth in the first moto. Skinner finished a close second, behind Chisholm, in the first mota, but some bad breaks put him in fifth the second time out, earning him fourth overall. Splitting the two for the last podium spot was Chase Revell, with a 4-3 score. Chisholm's final race of the day was in the 125cc (12-15) Stock class. Millsaps had just a little more punch to beat Chisholm to the line in both motos. Camp used a 3-4 tally for third overall. 58 MAY 28, 2003' 0: U 250/0PEN A: I. Dan Truman (Kaw); 2. On Saturday. the Suzuki rider used a 3- 1 score in the 125cc A Stock class to take second overall. In Sunday's 125A Pro Sport class, Millsaps jumped out front in the first mota, never to be headed. Bryan Johnson and Brian Gray tried to keep pace. but Millsaps pulled out a couple of seconds at the checkered flag. Johnson followed in second, while Gray dropped back with mechanical difficulties. Riding in a lonely third was Shane Lusk. Millsaps and Johnson went at it again in the second moto, with Gray in tow. Johnson turned the throttle a little more to take the win over the two Suzuki riders. Grant Ransdell made the trip from Milner, Georgia, worthwhile by winning both motos of the 65cc (7 -9) Stock class. over Andrew Stocker (3-2) and Zachary Bell (2-4). In the 65cc Modified (7-11) class. the competition was a little more stiff. Kyle Goerke. the winner of the 65cc (10- 11) Stock class. ran away with the first mota. Ransdell had his hands full with two other riders vying for the second spot. Cameron Smith and Cameron Reas kept close tabs on Ransdell the entire moto. but neither could make a bid for the runner-up spot. The second moto was a disaster for Goerke. who finished well back in the pack. Ransdell took the win, over Smith, and Luke Davie got third. John Lundy won both motos of the Senior Over 40 class. The Honda rider took the holeshot in the first moto and ran away with the win. John Shields ran second in the early stages until he miscalculated the announcer's condo jump and slid off. Sam Allen moved into second and had a comfortable lead over third but let off too much. and Mark Thomas sneaked by with two laps to go. Barry Ferrell took fourth, over Curt Jaimet. Lundy put the Honda out front to stay in mota two. Shields redeemed himself with sec· and. Ferrell outgunned Allen for third, and Jaimet was lIgain fifth. Some other notable rides were put in by Bubba Crosby, who scored both 85cc (7 -11) class overalls; Dan Truman, who won both A Stock classes; Kyle Meeks, the winner of the B5cc (14- 15) and Supermini classes; and Jay Shandy, who topped the 125cc C Stock and Modified classes. n e vv s ........y 65 (7-11) MOD: 1. Kentucky Dirt hell Series Round 3: Paducah International Raceway Zentmeyer Triumphs By BOBay lEwiS PADUCAH. KY. APR. 26 Racing was tight on this night on Paducah International Raceway's three-eighths-mile, high-banked course, and Bill Zentmeyer was the rider putting on the show, After hours of work to get the track dry enough to ride on, promoter Steve Nace laid out another perfectly prepared surface. Zentmeyer's pin-it-open style entertained the crowd, with drag stripstyle black strips coming off the tires. Gene Yopp and Dennis Porter led the Over 40 class into turn three on the opening lap, with Ed Clark, Bryon Ward and Zentmeyer jamming in behind. Yopp set the pace and took control at the front, while Zentmeyer stllrted a charge on his twin-cylinder Triumph. Zentmeyer picked off a rider per Jap, using the top of the groove to do the deed. With two laps left to run. he caught Yopp and immediately moved into the point. Zentmeyer kept the throttle pinned and went on for a comfortable win. over YoPP. Porter. Ward and Clark. Bill Gruwell led the Over 30 pack, over Yopp, Clark, Steve Atwell and Jeff Jones. Gruwell opened up a lead while Jones worked his way toward the leader. On the last lap, Jones used an outside drive into tum three to make the pass and score the win. Gruwell was II close second, over Yopp and Clark. Jeremy Anderson then used the same bike as Jones to nail the holeshot in the open Amateur final. Anderson then left the pack behind to win by nearly a straightaway. The battle for second was a heated one, as Kenny Kondoudis nabbed the spot by half a wheel over Jordan JenkJe. The 200cc Pro-Am class was a wild affair, with five riders having a shot at the win. Hayden Gillim was at the front, battling with Frankie Lee Gillim for the spot, At the halfway point, Zach Oliffe slipped undemeath both riders to take the lead. The Georgian rider kept a smooth line and scored the win, while Hayden held on to second, over Frankie Lee, Patrick Pyle and Jonathan Heiden. Two separate bar bangers were going on in the 85cc class. with the Gillim brothers up front and Heiden and Oliffe going at it for third. Coming off turn four to the checkers, Hayden came up the inside of Frankie Lee to get the win, and Oliffe did the same to Heiden to score third. Ethan Gillim came through the pack to round out the top five. Hayden also carried the checkers in the 65cc main after holding off a last-lap charge by Ethan. Jake Lewis was third. over Hayden Stewart and Nathaniel Vowell. At one spot or another on the track. nearly every rider took a turn at the front of the 50cc Shaft class. It all came down to the line. with Dylan Douglas taking the win by the narrowest of margins over Jacob Morris, Nick McFadden, Austin Hines. Bubba Neeley and Evan Stewart. Brian Neblett came back from the second spot in the heat race to score the victory in the Trail Rider division, over Jeff Heiden and Steve Parrish. The TT course featured a new layout. including three jumps. The 50cc Shaft class took to the track, and Morris led them into the infield while both McFadden and Douglas hit the ground. Morris kept it on two wheels to take a safe win, over Neeley. McFadden remounted and worked his way back up to third, over Hines and Stewart. Hayden led the 65cc pack into the infield. over Lewis and Ethan. Ethan made the move to second two laps later. and the podium was set. Stewart and Vowell rounded out the top five. Frankie Lee netted the win in the large B5cc final with a flag-to-flag run. Jonathan Heiden stayed on his rear wheel to finish second, over Cody Brown, Hayden, Nikki Spore, Oliffe, Ethan. Lewis and Mike Heiden. Dax Powell doubled up on wins in the Open Amateur and 200cc Pro-Am ranks. After coming from behind to nip Tyler Porter at the finish in the Open class, he held a slightly better margin of victory over the 200s. Following him home were Pyle, Frankie Lee. Brandon Thompson (who topped the 200cc Amateur class) and Hayden. Paducah International Raceway Paducah, Kentucky Results: April 26, 2003 (Round 3J Short Tmck 50 SHAfT: I. Dyilln Douglas (Hon); 2.
