Monster Mountain Motocross Park: Drew Askew (00) begins his disappearing act in the Pro class at round six of the Alabama Championship Series in Tallassee, Alabama. The Alabama Ace led from holeshotto checkers in every moto of the 125cc Pro and 250cc Pro classes. Askew busted out again in moto two, leading Craft, Kain and Lyle into tum one. A short distance behind them. Alabama's Darryl Heisler and Josh Thompson were locked in a fierce battle for fifth. Thompson finally got past Heisler and managed to move up into fourth. ahead of Lyle - briefly. Lyle repassed Thompson on the white-flag lap and regained the position for good, leaving Thompson in fifth. The race ended with Askew out front by a mile. followed by Kain. Craft. Lyle and Thompson. In the 250cc B class. Dale Kump again squeezed out the win, ahead of Honda·mounted Kyle Hochstettier. That win. coupled with a win over Lee Spann in moto one, gave Kump the overall win in the B class. Moto one of the 125cc AlB contest was Virtually a copy of the 250cc race. as far as Askew's dominance was concerned. Kain followed in second on lap one, ahead of Thompson and Louisiana's Blake Kennedy. However, Kennedy soon got by Thompson, bringing Lyle with him. Lyle then passed Kennedy for third. The order was set for the remainder, as Thompson had trouble and faded back. Askew took the win. followed by Kain. Lyle. Kennedy and Thompson. Meanwhile. the Bclass moto went to Florida's Blake Koch with a wire-to-wire victory. Moto two saw yet another holeshot by Askew. Following in the early stages were Thompson, Kennedy and Kain. However, Kain moved into second by the end of the first lap. Lyle was on the gas, pressuring Kennedy for a while. but he bobbled and dropped way back on lap three. The moto wound down with Askew again way out front. followed by Kain. Kennedy. Thompson and Lyle. The B-class win. as well as the overall for the day, went to Koch. The Supermini cJ1JSS was a battle of the local stars. Chase Borders. son of Pro Action of Alabama's Johnny Borders. appeared to have a lock on the win early on, but the fierce determination of his fellow competitors kept him honest. Borders grabbed the first-moto start. ahead of Mississippi's Kyle Gills and Georgia's Dylan Daniel. Back in sixth place was Alabama's Blane Mason. As Borders checked out. Mason began a charge to the front. and by lap three he was in second. By then. Borders had too much of a iead for Mason to overcome, and moto one ended with Borders winning by a mile, followed by Mason, Florida's Larry Partin Jr.. Gills and Daniel. Borders grabbed the lead again off the gate in moto two, but this time Mason got off with him and beg1Jn to apply the pressure. Borders gave in to Mason near race's end and crashed. dropping back to an eventual sixthplace finish. Mason's 2~ 1 finishes gave him the overall win for the day. AMP Spring Series Round 3: Prairie City National Track Foster Goes Faster! Bv JIM AND JaSTlN ENos RANCHO CORDOVA. CA. APR. 19 Suzuki pilot Brian Foster bested the field of 80ee Novices en route to the overall win at round three of the 2003 AMP Spring Series, presented by Swift Auto World. Yamaha of Modesto. and DH Cycles of Modesto. For the second time in the series, the popular AMP National Track at Prairie City played host. and more than 350 riders attended. Foster set a precedent right from the getgo, as he promptly shot out into the lead in moto one. Ryan Kirk. Clint Loudenburg and the rest of the field gave chase as Foster set out to open a gap on the field. In fact. that gap widened in a huny as he nailed down flawless laps in the five-lap affair. Meanwhile, Kirk and Loudenburg fought over second for several laps. and Loudenburg eventuaily got by on lap three. only to find Foster well out of sight. Kirk held on for the third spot. while Yamaha rider Zack Dupuis and Joey Lasiter rounded out the top five. In moto two, Foster nailed the cement start once again. Just 1JS in moto one, Foster left no doubt as to his intentions, which was to leave the racing behind him. Despite the rougher conditions, the Cameron Park resident once again looked smooth through the ruts en route to another convincing win. However. behind him, the race was anything but smooth for Loudenburg. as he started the moto off in third but went down on the second lap after challenging Kirk. who took advant1Jge of the situation and cruised in for a second·place finish and second overall on the day. Dupuis worked his way through the field for a well-deserved third and third overall on the day. Loudenburg rebounded for a sixth-place finish and fourth on the day. Rounding out the top five was Brandon Reyna. who checked in with a 6-4 score. In 80ec Intermediate action, series leader Brad Kelly was absent from the fieid. as an injury in the prior day's practice had left the speedster sidelined. However, the rest of the field provided some good racing action, from which Josh Fittro emerged victorious. While Justin Enos came away with the first-moto win. Fittro clawed his way through the fieid for second. just ahead of Bryar Perry. However. moto two was all Fittro·s. as he snagged the holeshot and never looked back, taking a wire-to-wire win for the overall. Enos followed up in third. behind Perry. for second overall on Prairie City NatlolUIl Track: Suzuki jockey Brian Foster topped the 80cc Novice class at the third round of the AMP Spring Series In Rancho Cordova, California_ n eVIl's the day. while Perry rounded out the top three. Enos came aW1JY with over1J1I wins in the 80cc Open and Supermini classes after putting in four solid motos. His 1- 1 efforts in the 80cc Open class and his 1-3 showing in the Supermini class bested those fields. Chappy Fiene (3-2) and Ricky Rinauro (2-3) traded runner-up spots in the 80cc Open c11J55, with the nod going to Fiene. while Fittro's 4-1 score bested Perry's 3-2 tally for second overall in the Supermini class. A large 80cc Beginner tumout called for two divisions. Blake Ballard. aboard one of the many Yamahas in the field. topped the division-one class. beating out Kyle Tucker for the overall on the day. Ballard chalked up a 1-2 tally while Tucker went 3-1. The divisiontwo win went to Jeff T1Jvares, whose 9-1 score sealed the deal over Troy Tidwell, who ended up with a 10-2 score on the day.
