Beach jumped into the lead at the start of the 85cc Modified main, followed closely by Evan Aronson. Both Jacob Lehmann and Brad Baker followed Aronson past Beach; then these three riders broke away from the rest of the pack to battle for the lead. Baker passed Lehman for second and stuck his front wheel under Aronson a couple of times but couldn't get the pass to stick until they caught up to lapped traffic. Aronson slowed and went to the inside while Baker gassed it up and went around....the· outside; Aron.son and Baker collided, a'nd Aronson got the worst of it, nearly crashing and dropping back to fifth. Baker, on the other hand, held on to the lead and took the win, ahead of Lehmann, Beach, Cody Peterson and Aronson. Results Kopp Captures Yakima Victory - By SAM IiALBERT Mid-Carolina Speedway: In Neeses, South Carolina, Brandon Lorick rode to victory in the first race of his career. The "Move of the Night" Award went to John M. Lewis, on his ABBA Service Co.fVPE Racing-backed Honda, as he slipped past Curt Jones on the inside groove of tum two in lap seven of the main. Jones, aboard his Honda, had led from the green flag, with Lewis starting out at the back of the pack. Lewis worked his way through traffic and was hot on Jones' heels until he made his move toward the end to grab the win. The battle of the night was a family affair in the Open Am class. Low-country sensation Bubba Seyle, on his Stokes Automotive Honda, showed once again that racing is in his blood. A natural-born flat-tracker, Seyle rode in his usual no-fear, wide-open style. He took command of the track after thundering from the start line and squeezing his Honda into the narrow groove among the very fast pack of riders. When the cluster of riders rounded tum two, Seyle was leading the pack. Momentarily challenged by his elder cousin and uncle, Eddie and Jerry Stokes, Seyle rode strong and hard to capture the checkered flag. The Stokes men had to settle for second and third, and it was a good time for a family photo opportunity at the podium. Results 50/60 SPCL: I. Bl1IIndon Lorick (Han); 2. Austin Lorick (Hon). 80: I. After walking off with the second Over 25 A moto, Andrich could only muster fifth overall. Although shaken up, Andrich was still able to take on the 250cc Pro class, getting the overall after battling F&S teammate David "Pee Ween Whitcraft. However, it was Whitcraft who iook the 125cc Pro overall with a snazzy holeshot in moto two that led to a tasty win over Andrich. In Amateur racing, it was all Zach Haning. The Buckeye Powersports-backed Haning kept his Mike Skinner-tuned YZ250 out front for the 16·24 overall and the 250cc B trophy. In 85cc action, Axl Moler was showing the rest of the unruly youth the fast way around the new circuit as he put on a clinic, winning the 85cc (12-15) class outright. Meanwhile, Ted Rogers topped the 85cc Extra class hands down, also putting on quite a show. Results 50 (4-6): 1. Jacob Thomas (KTM); 2. Davey Boysel (IITM); 3. Austin Costlow (KTM). 50 (4·8): 1. Joe Kopp won all three Pro classes, though not without a fight from the locals. Christian Vernon pulled off the holeshot in the 16-rider Open Money main, with Sam Halbert in second and Kopp in third. The three leaders broke away from the rest of the field and battled for the lead. While Halbert stayed right on Vernon's tail on the low line, Kopp ran it in deep and tried to get by on the high line. Kopp made several passes, none of which stuck - until Vernon bobbled coming out of tum two on the sixth lap. Kopp drove around the outside for the lead while Halbert went underneath for second. On the next lap, Vernon bobbled in the same spot, and Halbert crashed, bringing out the red flag. The race was declared over; Kopp took the win, with Vernon second, Eric Rickman third, Jethro Halbert fourth and Kyle Ragsdale fifth. Vernon snagged another holeshot, this time in the Expert class. Beau Brown passed Jethro going down the back straight on lap one. Then Kopp started charging hard on the outside, overtaking Jethro on the third lap for third. Kopp then passed Brown and Vernon on the outside, and by the last lap he was in the lead. Brown followed him past Vernon for second. Christian held on to third, Jethro remained in fourth, and Ragsdale placed fifth. Vernon got his third holeshot of the night in the 450cc Money class. Rickman was in second, and Scooter Vernon was in third, but Kopp stuck his KTM on the outside and drove around them both to take over second; a couple of laps later he took the lead and the win away from Christian. Both Scooter and Brown passed Rickman. Kopp took his third win, ahead of Christian, Scooter, Brown and Rickman. Dan Adkins got the holeshot in the Pro Sport final and ran away with the win on his Honda 450, ahead of Thomas Sherman and 50 OPEN: 1. Jake Strong; 2. Seth Harris; 3. Wyatt Peckman. 50 SR: I. Bnwles opened Marysville Motocross Park By RUPERT X. PEu.Err MARYSVILLE, OH, APR. 19 F&S Suzuki-sponsored Steve Andrich of Lancaster, Ohio (and formerly of California), was on top of his game at this brand-new facility that is, until his bike was on top of him. With a pair of brand-new, well-prepped Suzukis from his sponsor and looking very fit after a winter of heavy workouts, Andrich was all about getting this newly formed and freshly opened track off to a great start, and he looked to be the fastest man on the course. During the first Over 25 A moto, Andrich stacked up on a soft spot on the track after 82 MAV21,2003' c u e I e Marysville Motocross Park: Steve Andrich checks out his front fender during the first Over 25 A moto at the brand-new facility in Marysville, Ohio. n e _ s Yakima Fairgrounds: Joe Kopp slapped the cuffs on ail three Pro classes at Washington's firs1 han mile of the season, in Yakima.
