Squisher Racing Motocross Series Round 4: Hom Rapids DRV Park Ard, Keane Peachy at the Horn By KYLE BRADHAM RICHLAND, WA, APR. 13 At round fouT of the Squisher Racing Motocross Series, Portland, Oregon's Joel Ard made the long trip beneficial by winning the I 25cc and 250cc Intermediate classes. In the first 250cc Intermediate moto, Adam Beauvais put his blue bike into tum one first, but Shumate Molorsports' Jensen Hendler was applying all sorts of pressure by turn two, forcing Beauvais into making some crucial mistakes. Ard was charging hard in third place, not letting Beauvais or Hendler pull away. The top three continued to set an absolutely blazing pace for the rest of the field to try to match. Hendler chose to make his move on lap fouT. A daring cut to the inside of Beauvais resulted in a first-place position for Hendler. A very impatient Ard daringly held the throttle wide open over a double section, absolutely flying past a fading Beauvais. On the very next double, a crucial mistake was made by Hendler, leaving just a little room for Ard to make a potentially molo·winning pass. Hendler tailed Ard for the next lap, watching his every line. Ard chose a disastrous outside line, allowing Hendler to cruise back by. When the checkered flag flew, Hendler took the top spot, followed by a disappointed Ard in second and a consistent Beauvais in third. Mota two was not as close a contest. Hendler had unfortunately crashed in his combined mota, which left Ard to cruise to a second-moto win. Ard pulled a clean holeshot and absolutely checked out. Josh Beauvais followed his big brother Adam and CR250mounted Josh Cockrum. In the final laps, Ard pulled away even further. Josh put in a great ride on a box-stock YZ250 but went down, letting Hom Rapids veteran Chad Jones sneak by. The second-mota win went to Ard with a 12-second lead, followed by Adam and 250cc Intermediate newbie Cockrum in third. The "future superstars' in the 65cc (9-11) class wowed the crowd with their airtime and blazing comer speed. The mota-one holeshot went to Lewiston, Idaho's Huston Keane. As he launched off the cement pad for the early lead, neither he nor his competitors realized that Keane's front-brake caliper had rattied its way off the disk. Keane quickly faded to second as a result of having only half his brakes, and Trevor Ivey took over the point. The KTMmounted Vance Davis rode to his full potential while trying to chase down Keane, but Keane kept his composure and held off Davis throughout the final laps. The mota win went to Ivey, with Keane second and Davis third. Mota two was something of a follow-theleader race, with Keane being the leader. Mike Pontious was using every trick in the book to keep Keane in sight while charging in second, and Ivey kept pace in third. Pontious and Ivey chased Keane the entire race until the white flag flew. Pontious then fell, letting Ivey slip by. Keane crossed the finish first. followed by Ivey and Pontious. A talented 250cc Junior class tore off the gate for their first mota, with Jayson Sheets puliing a clean holeshot on the big· bore CRF450. Half a lap into the race, Sheets had already posted a very large early lead on the rest of the field. A bad start forced Yamaha rider Justin Hilker to negotiate his way through the pack. Sheets must have been unaware of the fierce pace that Hilker was setting, as Hilker had closed the gap to just a few seconds. Rich Buetler trailed back in third but cut the seconds off with amazing corner speed. Whiie tackling the long back sweeper, Buetler crossed up but managed to make a miraculous save. This allowed the fourthplaced rider, Keith Newhouse, to blow by. Hilker began to slow his pace, due to what looked like arm pump. Newhouse went down, giving the third position back to Buetler. Sheets continued his domination until the checkered flag flew, followed by Hilker and Buetler. The start of the second moto found Sheets on the ground, picking up his bike. Buetler pulled a big holeshot and was chased the entire moto by both Hilker and Newhouse. Buetler appeared to be suffering from a severe case of ann pump, because he quickly faded, allowing Hilker and Newhouse around. Hilker took the win, followed by Newhouse and Buetler. Holeshot Awards were provided by Axo and Shumate Motorsports and were presented to Keane, Adam Beauvais, Travis Farmer and Ard.
