chain. That's the second one [win] he had, and it slipped away. Unfortunately, that's the way it goes, sometimes. These younger guys are really pushing it and stepping up. It's only going to be a matter of time before they are beating me. I'm going to try and stay in front of them as long as I can." Pearson took the checkers in second place approximately a minute and a half behind Davis, while a happy Abbott took third about the same distance behind Pearson. "My race went all right," Pearson said. "I got a good start and followed Ty. I got to play around with Destry for a couple of laps. That was a lot of fun. Destry is on the comeback trail. He got up there and passed me, and then I passed him back. We just kept passing each other back and forth. That was the fun nest part of the race. I tried to get up to Ty and was reeling him in. I saw that I only had two laps left and thought to myself, 'I tired of getting second.' So I pushed and pushed and ended up finding a hole out there around a corner, and the next thing I knew, I was on the ground. I picked myself up, said a few choice words and got second. I guess I can't complain. I just have to get home and get to work to beat Ty." Abbott was thrilled to get back on the podium again. "I got a good start, third behind Ty and Russ. We had a great race going. During the first couple of laps, we were battling, waving at each other going back and forth. In the first hour we were only 10 or 20 seconds behind Ty. I felt like 1 was going today; I had a little mishap before the pit and lost some time and just couldn't catch back up. I thought I would end up fourth because Smail was flying and passed me. Unfortunately for him, he broke, and I was lucky enough to make the podium. I'm real happy with my speed and the way my bike is working. I could have done better, so hopefully in Washougal I'll do that." With three rounds left in the series, Davis leads Pearson by just 15 points. "I know that eventually those guys will beat me, but I'll do whatever I have to do to stay out in front of them as long as I can." Davis said. "My experience has helped me the last couple of races; I think that was the difference. I knew what I had to do to win, and I was able to get it done. Some days the fastest rider doesn't win; the smartest one does." CN ----------------------------------------------o O/A: 1. Ty Davis (Yam); 2. Russell Pearson (Yam); 3. Destry Abbott (Kaw); 4.
