Hollister Hills OHV Park Chandler Wicks It Up at CMA Opener By EDDIE GRAVEUNE/WWW./IIOTOPRESS.NET HOLUSTER,CA,MAR.2 The Hollister Hills OHV Park is home to one of California's most historic motocross tracks. In the springtime, when the hills of the Central Coast are lush and green, it's also one of the most beautiful. The opening round of the CMA Pacific Coast Pro·Am series was made even better with perfect, sunny weather. Nothing will make motocrossers happier than those conditions. The Pro-Am series is one of the most popular on the CMA calendar. One reason is that the central and northern divisions both visit some great tracks. The biggest reason for its popularity, though, has to be the dealer dollars that are paid out to every class. Anyone who races motocross, from the greenest Beginner to the most grizzled Pro, can use dealer dollars. With that kind of incentive, it's no wonder the racing was so intense. The least intense action was in the Adult SOc, class. The lunacy has spread throughout California to the point that a class is being included in almost every event. The usual suspects in Hollister included Nick Sala (who is pretty fast on the big bikes), a Mini dad, and a couple of buddies named Jack Daniels and Bud Light. The race was spectacular, as the riders went bar to bar down the start straight and employed exceptionally innovative riding styles. Some find it much easier to stay in the attack position on an XR50. When all was said and done, Sala emerged victorious. He was followed by Nicholas Negronti and Tyler Boeddeker. Jack and Bud came in last and next to last. That's weird. As at most CMA events, there were a bunch of 85cc riders in Hollister. The trio of Nicholas Baker, Stevie Hall and Daniel Atencio went head to head several times throughout the day and provided the fans with some entertaining action. Based on the Intermedj· ate-class results, there seemed to be a clear· cut order: Baker went 1·1 ror the class victory, while Hall and Atencio finished 2-2 and 3-3, respectively. Then there was the X class, in which there was one moto for the glory. Atencio edged Hall for the win, while Baker had trouble and fell all the way to sixth. Hall came back to defeat Baker in the Supermini class, giving each of the three one class win on the day. Close racing like that left the fans hoping to see those three together again soon. The Pro-Am race is what it's all about in this series, and Hollister had a good one. Amazingly, Intermediate riders took four of the top five positions. Eventual winner Trafton Chandler, Brent Nichols, Matt Gaines and Sala did the Amateur ranks proud. Chandler is one of the fastest riders on the Central Coast. Ronnie Raymond was the only Pro on the podium. finishing third aboard his Yamaha. Racers have a lot of pride. The remaining rounds of the series will be something to see, because you can bet that the Pros will come back with their guns blazing. Be there. Results 50 AOOlT: I. Nkk Sala; 2.
