Northwest Arenacross Nationals Round 9: Forster Livestock Pavilion Josh Hibler and Kawasaki jockey Zack Morey. An exceptionally large Supermini class was also at overflow capacity, forcing two qualifiers and a 20-rider final. In the end, though, it was local rider Matt Wilson who came out on top of the heap, just as he has several times this season. Wilson grabbed the lead and never looked back, taking the win ahead of Honda rider Nick Bergley and Suzuki pilot Jyles Montgomery, neither of whom has spent much time at this venue. Hillman, who had earlier won the 60cc Senior and 80cc (9-11) classes, finished fourth to finalize an impressive day for the rider from Medford, Oregon. Klete Kinser and Andreotti netted the fifth and sixth. eN Terlecki, Rookstool STORY AND PHOTOS BY CLAY LIGHT SAlEM, OR, FEB. 16 amaha riders Ryan Terlecki and Kevin Rookstool ravaged the competition at the Salem, Oregon, round of the Lee Collins/Web Hill Raceway-sanctioned Northwest Arenacross Nationals, held at Forster Livestock Pavilion. Terlecki's local win streak was kept intact with his 125cc and 250cc Pro-class wins, while southern Oregon speedster Rookstool ruled the Intermediate ranks, posting the 125cc, 250cc and Before The Hill victories. Joining Rookstool (who was the lone three-class winner) in Victory Circle were Bradley Hillman, another of the contingent of southern Oregonians on hand, who posted the 60cc Senior and 80cc (9- 11) class wins; Matt Wilson, who won the aocc (14-16) and Supermini classes; Nick Randklev, who won the 125cc and Before The Hill Junior classes; Jeremy McLain, who won the 250cc Junior and Open Amateur classes; Jon Jolley, who won the 250cc and Over 30 Beginner classes; and Brayden Massey, the victor in the Pee Wee (3-6) and Husky Challenge events. Terlecki had tough competition in the 250cc Pro class, as Washington's J.R. Vielle challenged the rider from Stayton, Oregon, in the early stages of both motos. Vie lie, riding a Honda CRF450R, has this year stepped up his performance another notch, although the opportunities to put a wheel under Terlecki this season have been few and far between, as Vielle and the rest of the competition found out. Vie lie was second overall, followed by series front-runner Tracy Johnson (3-3). who placed third overall. The 125cc Pro class was much the same: Series regulars Brett Boehm and Johnson loomed in the shadow of Lynnwood Motoplex/Sinisalo/ Y Forster Livestock Pavilion Salem, Oregon Results: February 16, 2003 IRound 9J P/W (3-6): 1. Brayden Massey (Pol); 2. Samuel Mercer (KTM); 3. Nathlln Halls (Pol); 4. Jacob Carpenter (KTM); 5. Cody Smith (KTM). Smith/Maxxis/DK-backed Terlecki in the early stages of both motos, but the former full-time AMA National and Supercross regular pulled away to large leads and easily won. This capped off his second of two overall wins on the day. Boehm trailed Terlecki overall, while the Yamahamounted Johnson again placed third. Fifteen-year-old Rookstool added his name to the list of this season's top performers at the facility; the Yamaha rider's first of three overall wins came in the Before The Hill Intermediate class, where he finished closest to Vielle, who was the lone Open Pro-class contestant, in moto one. Vielle was a no-show in moto two, and that made it much easier for Rookstool to attain the checkered flag first. Washington's Ricky Yorks, who was one of the few on the day to lead Rookstool, finished second overall with a 2-2 tally, followed by Ron Marshall (3-3). Ryan Terlecki's Northwest rampage continued with his 125cc and 250cc Pro-class wins at the Northwest Arenacross Nationals at Forster Livestock Pavilion in Salem, Oregon. won overall by Polini rider Brayden Massey. While Massey failed to win the opening moto, he did come back strong to command moto two and cap off his first of two overall wins on the day. One of the two 4-year-olds in the field, KTM rider Samuel Mercer, finished second overall with consistent 2-2 performances, while Polinimounted Nathan Haas, the winner of moto one, garnered third overall with a 1-3 tally. The Pee Wee (7-8) class was swept by Cobra rider Hunter Evanson. The rider from Washington walloped the competition in his qualifying win (in the second of two preliminaries), and then he came back to take the lead from Tanner Berry on the first lap of the 17 -rider main event. Jordan Schow trailed the diminutive duo and finished third, followed by KTM-mounted Cory Patterson, winner of the first qualifier. Ryan Bergley finished fifth, while Husky jockey Brandon Barber netted sixth. With 20 riders, the 125cc Beginner class utilized the full starting gate, but it was Yamaha YZ250F-mounted Joshua Scott who grabbed the lead in the early stages and stayed there to the finish. Scott, who this season has been a consistent top-three performer, was on this day the elite in the class' main event. Jay Scheidler and former minicycle rider Dominic Andreotti completed a Yamaha sweep of the top three, followed by cue I e n eVIl'S MARCH 12, 2003 55
