32M ANNUAL WORLD MINI GRAND PRIX· WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MOTOCROSS • 32nd ANNUAL WORLD MINI GRAND PRIX: .'tYORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MOlOCAOSS • 32nd ANNUAL WORLD MINI GRANO P"IX • WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MOTOCROSS Landon thumped to a pair of overall wins. also in the Evo portion of the program, picking up the Under 40 and Four-Stoke Expert-class wins. Monty Price and Oregon's Kurt Stevens have been among the elite in the Open Expert Eva class throughout the series. but this day was Stevens' tum to shine. Stevens, riding a Yamaha YZ465, came out on top of amato-two shootout before his overall win came to pass. Price. riding another of the many Yamaha TT500-based machines, held Stevens off to post a win in the first moto, although Stevens held the upper hand in the second mota after fending off challenges from Price. Landon didn't fare as well in his third class of the day, though, and went 3-4 for fourth overall, trailing Stevens (2-1), Price (1-2) and Maiec-mounted Oregonian Kary Krahel (4-3). There were several impressive performers contesting the combined Intermediate class, as Honda rider Christopher Del Aire rode amid several Expert riders and swept both motos. Darrell Kilgore and Joe Hart posted secondplace finishes to Del Aire in both motos, with Kilgore (5-2) garnering second overall. Owens was a two-class contestant on the day, but his best performances of the day (after going 6-5 in the 250cc Vintage Amateur class) came in the aforementioned Over 40 Vintage Amateur class. Fellow Husky rider Don Shelton held the point position for two laps in the first moto, but Jeff took the lead on lap three and remained there to the finish. Don finished third. followed by Richard Clark and AI Anderberg. Moto two was all Owens'. He got out front at the get-go and remained there to the finish, snapping Jeffs current win streak in the class. However, Jeff remained in the series title hunt with a third-overall finish, despite a seventhplace finish in mota two. Jeff was mired midpack throughout the mota and trailed Owens, Anderberg, Glen Freiboth, Bryan Anderberg, Clark and Don in moto two. Overall. Owens (2- J), AI Anderberg (5-2), Jeff (1-7). Clark (4-5) and Dcn (3-6) rounded out the top five. Suzuki rider Mark Sullivan swept both 250cc Vintage Amateur motos, edging Honda CR250 Elsinore pilot Leon Leonard. This allowed Sullivan to tum the tables on Leonard, after Leonard captured the overall win in the class at the previous round to momentarily dethrone Sullivan. But Sullivan came back strong on this day. Jeff (3-4) finished third overall. Twenty-three riders competed in the Under 40 Evo Amateur class, but Tim Blough blew the competition away with his 1- 1 sweep of the class. The Honda rider beat Jay Jones and Dan Cunningham in both motos. Maico rider Cunningham trailed Blough in the overall standings with a 3-2 tally. Husqvarna-mounted Dan Glenn grabbed an overall win in the Over 50 Evolution Amateur class to post his best finish of the season. over Yamaha rider Bob DuVall and CZ jockey Ron Saunders. •. i I ~ z · ~ · f c ~ C 2.
