After the restart and a few laps of chasing Chad Sparks, Brouhard took the lead and won easily, ahead of his Crown Mortgage teammate Willie Broten. Riding his Retax to victory on the night put Brouhard in first place for the season championship points races, with five races remaining. Steve Bystrom of Forest Lake, Minnesota, showed up with a new DTXed Honda 450. Bystrom rode it to victory in the Open Amateur class, over Sparks and Corey Schweich. Bystrom also ran in second place in the Open Pro class with his new ride but crashed hard in tum one while dicing with Broten. Bystrom will be a contender in the outdoor season on his ~ z Z . z UJ UJ If fil " > CO .f5 :z: new Honda. There were 52 riders in the night's program, and they all enjoyed a perfect track. The next races at the MotoDome will be on February 22. As this race marks the halfway point of the indoor season, many riders are thinking about getting to the outdoor tracks to use many of the techniques they've learned during this indoor series. FEB. 2 Former Texas State Enduro Champion Rick Higgins edged out Brian Storrie on tie breakers for the win at the first round of the Texas State Championship Enduro Circuit, hosted by the Renegade Motorcycle Club. Race conditions were dry and powdery, with temperatures starting in the 40s but then warming up to the mid-60s. This helped bring out a record turnout of 350 riders. Some riders had difficulty following the course markings and mileage. As a multitime state champion and former ISDE rider, Higgins kept on the trail. "The course was long and hard," Higgins reported. "The test sections were 10 to 15 miles long, and I really like that. The last longcourse test was really a good. one, and my hat is off to the Renegade Club for putting on a tough race. I would like to thank Sharp's Motosports, the newest KTM dealer in Texas. My new KTM ll50 EXC worked fiawlessly." Rainbow Falls Park Wright Gets It Right, When It Counts By GEORGE PENNINGTON WOODLAND PARK, CO, FEB. 2 More than 200 racers turned out for round four of the Harry's Roamers M/C-promoted icerace series at Rainbow Lake Park. Currently celebrating its 37th year, HRMC is Colorado's oldest motorcycle club. While unseasonably warm temperatures offered racers and spectators some great racing and comfortable viewing conditions, the lake itself was steadily melting throughout the day. The Roamers responded by cutting practice short and starting the racing early. Additionally, some classes were combined in an effort to shorten the day's program. With only one round remaining and the possibility of its being canceled because of the meltdown, points leaders were going for it. Kelly Wright blasted out to a commanding lead in the 0-300 Vintage heat. Riding an early-model Honda CR250, Wright continued to pull away from the pack each lap. Meanwhile, Can-Am-mounted Marty Cox battied for second place with Ossa-mounted Jeff Pinello and Yamaha rider Pat Lemly. The importance of the second position came into play on the last lap: As Wright rounded tum four with the white flag in sight, his Honda's rear wheel suddenly hopped and then broke traction, sending Wright down onto the ice in spectacular fashion. Cox avoided the carnage and inherited the lead, which he maintained to the checkered flag. Results A O/A; Rick Higgins (Yllm). M:. 1. Brian Storrie (00); 2. Don Hogan (Kaw): 3.
