I Track owner Jeff Oldenburg spent a lot of time during the practice sessions showing the younger riders a fast line around the track. A former motocross champion, Oldenburg worked hard, explaining how to get around the track the fastest while stressing that they are all here to learn and have fun. He had the riders entering the corners up next to the hay bales, cutting down across the groove, and exiting next to the tires on the inside of the track. On this night's track. this method of squaring off the comer worked well for many riders, including Mitchell Oldenburg, who won the Micro Chain class on his KTM. Mitchell ran away with both the heat race and the final, making it five straight wins for the 8-year-old from Browerville. Minnesota, who no doubt has had many discussions with his father about racing lines. Winning two races on the night was Michael "Dan" Haggard, who rode his SR500 Yamaha to victories in the Vintage Singles and Beginner classes. Haggard displayed a very smooth riding style, which he is steadily improving upon. If there was an award for having the biggest grin in the pits, Haggard would have won hands down. The Open Pro class once again had to have a restart after eventual winner Eric Motorcycle Racing LIMITED EDITION MOTORCYCLE ART BY HARRY MILLER ~._ ~~"- day Springsteen 21" X 30" Watercolor Portrait • Full-Color • Ready to frame • Printed on Heavy 100 lb. stock • Only 250 in each series "~ "'l Unsigned Print $30. 00 CA residents add 7.75% sales tax· Includes Shipping (U.S. only) To Order, Call Cycle News Products at 714-751-7433 (9am-5pm PST) cue I e n e _ :s FEBRUARY 26, 2003 69
