VOLUME 57 ISSUE 34 AUGUST 25, 2020 P57 ZACH OSBORNE TAKES EARLY COMMAND OF THE 450MX CHAMPIONSHIP WITH LORETTA'S SWEEP 4 TWO BY KIT PALMER PHOTOGRAPHY BY ROB KOY Z ach Osborne made it two for two to open the 2020 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, but it was anything but a routine day at the track for the 30-year-old veteran. In fact, it was a rollercoaster of a ride for him and his Rockstar Energy Husqvarna team. He almost didn't even make it through qualifying because of a mechanical issue, then had to deal with the awful track condi- tions, bad starts, tip-overs, goggle changes and plenty of competition before he could claim the overall victory with a 5-1. Among the biggest news of the day was Eli Tomac's double DNF. The defending champ suffered two mechanical meltdowns, the first coming while running fourth on the last lap of the first moto and the second while running eighth three laps from the end (but he was nursing his ailing motorcycle well before then) in the second moto. As a result, he falls to seventh in the champion- ship and trails leader Osborne by 40 points with just seven rounds (14 motos) left.
