Mead, Teyler Big Sky Challenge
Champions
T
he Big Sky Challenge in
Billings, Montana, took
place August 22-23 at the
century-old Billings Motorcy-
cle Club, widely considered
as the Motorcycle Hill Climb
Capital of the World. For the
first time ever, the BMC's
Rockwell Pro Hillclimb Series
partnered with the IRC Moto-
climb Super Series, to create
a joint series event that en-
ticed more riders from around
the country, all fighting for
the $30,000-plus purse.
The two series compromised
between differing rules and
class structure to accommo-
date the 80-plus pro riders,
including the reintroduction of
nitromethane-powered bikes
at the BMC.
The steep, 350-foot bentonite hill
was watered nearly non-stop for three
weeks, so the hill's moisture played
a deciding factor for riders choosing
between a paddle tire or knobby.
The Rockwell Pro Hill Climb Series
hosted five classes, where each class
winner receives a custom engraved
Rockwell Watch.
Jake Anstett won the 450cc class,
which acted as the MSS 450 main
side-by-side qualifier, on his Team
Peterson Racing KTM 450 SX-F. Kirk
Mueller won the 600cc Limited class
on a Honda CR500, Craig Spencer
won the 40+ Pro Master class aboard a
Honda CR500, Cody Cerovski topped
the 0-700cc class riding a Husaberg
650 with nitrous, and Logan Mead
won the 701-Open class on his KTM
1290.
At the end of the weekend, Austin
Teyler topped the Rockwell Cham-
pionship runoff aboard his Suzuki
Bandit 1200 with an IRC M5B EVO
rear tire, winning himself a large gold
Rockwell Watch.
In the IRC Motoclimb Super
Series, Logan Mead won the Open
Class for the second time during the
weekend, and Jake Anstett claimed
the 450 Main victory after an in-
tense top-32 bracket final. With the
MSS points structure, Logan Mead
became the MSS Big Sky Challenge
Champion.
