Bruce Sanford's SCFTA Winter Short Track Series Round 4: Victorville Speedway Ian Foulds clamped down two main-event wins at round four of Bruce Sanford's SCFTA Winter Short Track Series. He won both the 250cc Amateur and Open Amateur classes on his 250cc Yamaha. By JAMEY BLUNT VICTORVILLE, CA, JAN. 26 he first double-main-event winner at round four of Bruce Sanford's Southern California Flat Track Association Winter Short Track Series was former Amateur National title holder Andy Wood. At 4: 15 p.m., the Southland Racing rider threw his leg over his Honda CR85 and nailed the start. Chasing him in second was Hondamounted Devin Booher. On lap three, Wood turned the fastest lap of an 85cc machine, at 12.2 seconds. At the white flag, Booher made a run at Wood going into turn three, but Wood held his line and rode to victory by a bikelength. Some four seconds back, Wesley Kaimer came in third. The very next race was Wood's second victory, as he switched to an XRI00 for the XRI00 Youth contest. He had little trouble dominating it, finishing more than four seconds ahead of Dustin Phares and Kevin Knudsen. Pole-sitter Kenny Hunter was poised to keep his win steak alive in the XRl 00 Adult class. Hunter shot to 250) to pick up his other win, over Alex Wood and Brad Holt. The final double winner of the day was a busy boy. Richard Pollock competed in the Vet Over 35 class and the Senior Over 50 class, winning both. Dennis Vall was riding better than ever, and he and Dennis Cameron kept Pollock honest in the Senior main, while Ben Meyer and Royal Adderson did likewise in the Vet class. concussion, he's been released from the hospital and is resting comfortably at home in Norwalk, California. Young tough guy Doug Douglas hit the crash wall, breaking his foot, but in true Dick Mann fashion, he went out on a BSA for the main event anyway so he could collect the points. Everyone wishes them both a speedy recovery. When the new season starts in March, the SCFTA will be back at Victorville and hopefully at the brandnew oval at the old Perris scrambles track. CN while, Rosa had caught Felice and was hounding him. On lap 12, Jimmy got past Pollock and began to pull away, turning an I l.8-second lap. Pollock was secure in second. Felice had third, with Rosa fourth, and that was the finishing order. Cobb gained the most positions to finish in fifth. Other performers of note included Ryan Surratt, Dustin Phares, Larry Smith, Geoff Arnold, Devin Booher, Jim McMurren, Steffen, Jeff Apple, Craig Johnson, Mickey Alzoha, Lloyd McGregor and Ben Meyer, all of whom won a class. Two riders went down on this day. Marshall Jennings, known to be a fierce competitor, fell on the front straightaway and was run over not once but twice; though he sustained broken ribs, a punctured lung and a Victorville Speedway Victorville, Califomia Results: January 26, 2003 [Round 41 50 YTH: 1. Bob Cobb, out of the Shell Racing camp, came from fifth to finish second, while hard-charging Brad Rudy moved up to finish third. The second double winner of the day got his first win in the 250cc Amateur class. Ian Foulds put his Suomy Helmets 250cc Yamaha out front at the get-go, with Alex Wood glued to his back wheel. Bultaco jockey Craig Johnson ran third. Lap after lap, Foulds turned lap times of 12 seconds flat, and he consistently went wide out of turn four, but Alex was never quite able to take advantage. Twelve riders lined up to do battle. Pollock took the lead at the start. Jimmy Wood, now on a Honda instead of his Suzuki, ran second, with Justin Felice third, Jim Rosa fourth, Foulds fifth and Joe Steffen sixth. Starting from the third row, Bob Cobb charged into ninth. On lap two, Felice slipped under Jimmy to take second, only to have the favor returned a lap later. At the front, Pollock was trying to get away. For a while it looked like he might, but then Jimmy put his head down and started charging. By lap eight, Wood had caught Pollock and was trying to find a way around.
