After battling with Zimmerman and giving up the lead momentarily, Garrahan was able to retake the lead and pull away a little bit. He went on to take the win by just less than a minute ahead of Zimmerman, who took second. Wesner rode home in third, ahead of Sperle, who was able to keep his KTM in fourth. Suzukimounted Rod Kreiss was fifth after working his way up through the pack after an interesting start. "My start wasn't too great," Kreiss recounted. "Brian Garrahan kicked out a hay bale in the first corner. I was right behind him, and I saw it; I didn't know what to do, and I just center-punched the thing." The Fairfield Cycle Center-sponsored Kreiss' ride was even more impressive considering it was his first race in 10 months, after recovering from a serious knee injury. Honda rider Greg Ghione narrowly took eighth place overall, just ahead of Suzuki rider Jeff Bauer in ninth and Yamaha pilot Russell Pereira in 10th. All three riders finished only a handful of seconds apart. The race also featured one of the largest Women's A classes in recent history. Sheena Patterson, aboard a Suzuki, was the top finishing woman rider.
