guest speaker Malcolm Smith. This year, under the leadership of George McMahan. the TSCEC was able to hold its awards banquet at the prestigious Texas Motor Speedway. On Saturday morning, tours of the facility were provided, complete with an aO-mph circuit of LOCAL TALENT the track in big passenger vans. At 1 p.m., a fund-raiser auction was held, featuring gear donated by many shops and individuals. Bruce Lair served as auctioneer, and Will Hendrix calculated that more than 53500 was raised to support the TSCEC. The banquet kicked off at 6:30 p.m. It would not have been possible without the generous support of many individuals who contributed directly to this event. Sponsor tables also helped make this event possible. There are too many sponsors to list individually. but TSCEC graciously acknowledges Tucker Rocky Distributing and MS Racing as the main sponsors of this event. The evening began with a special dedication to two of our fallen riders. Tim Vaughn and Stephen Griner. This year, a Sportsmanship Award was founded in Griner's name, and Bud Hutchison, a longtime rider and the current TSCEC Web master, was selected to receive the award. TSCEC heiped send three Texas riders to the International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) this year. Mark Thompson, Brian Storrie and David Kiein got up and thanked the riders for their support and urged the TSCEC riders to foliow their dreams and ride to the best of their abilities. The highlight of the event was a very special guest speaker, Malcolm Smith. Having such a motorcycling legend on hand was the icing on the cake. Riders young and old listened intently to the wonderful stories he shared. He is as captivating a speaker as he is a racer! The awards presentation was inspiring, as class winners received not only huge trophies but also specially embroidered MS Racing enduro jackets and a chance to shake hands with Smith. These awards will be prized for a lifetime, as will the memories from this special event. "It takes a lot of hard work and luck to get through a full season on the enduro circuit, and to finally come out on top is very rewarding," said the overall winner this year, Michael Wilson. "There are so many things that can happen during the course of a season. I would like to thank Sharps Motorsports, MSR. Tucker Rocky, and my dad for hauling me around and introducing me to this great sport years ago. It is a pleasure to be around the great people who make up the Texas State Championship Enduro Circuit. I am looking forward to another fun season." eN Final Results A TEAM: Sharps Team (Michael Wilson/Rick Higgins/Mark Thompson). e TEAM: Zero Team (Henry Polley/Michael Polley/Dean Kel· logg). "At Moroso. when we couldn't hear the guy call the third call. So I pulled out to get on the track, and everybody was already gridded up. They let everybody take off_ then I had to play catch-up. It took me the Whole six laps to do it, but on the very last lap_ I finally got around them. That was probably the hardest I've worked, and the most enjoyable time that I remember racing:' www.cyclenews.com ~Ad""'IV"'6CInc 2211 MIchooI Ro-d C..Il!ltooll, Be V1ceWS Info. 2 I 4- ~ S I -9900 www.backroBdsadventures.ca ~ OutiI:me;ron By Lisa Theobald 27th Annual GNC ,,:./ International MX Final :·~.' ::March 14-15-16th. 2003 .:;::....
