Clark County Fairgrounds McCormick Still on Top By JUSTIN WHARTON BATTLEGROUND, WA, DEC. 29 With a large purse up for grabs, there was a healthy showing at round six of the Promoto Promotions Clark County Arenacross Series. The man to beat, by far, was the number-tworanked Eastern Four·Stroke Nationals rider and Battleground native Jason McCormick. Nailing the holeshot in the 250cc Pro class, McCormick was followed by fellow National rider J.R. Vielle and Joey Mancuso. McCormick showed everyone the fast way around the track. setting a pace that Vielle had a hard time trying to match, while Mancuso lost ground quickly to the two CRF450R riders and kept making mistakes while trying to mimic their lap times. McCormick seemed to be totally at ease around what everyone agreed was the hardest track of the series: With two nasty whoop sections and a quad jump, the rest of the track looked like a miniature supercross track. McCormick never even seemed to bobble once. By the halfway point, McCormick had a fair lead over Vielle and had already lapped Mancuso, who purposely let McCormick and Vielle by. Mancuso started to work on his jumps and finally took on what so far only McCormick had done - the hefty-sized quad jump. With Mancuso out of the way and Vielle no longer in striking distance, McCormick cruised to a easy victory. Vielle finished second, and Mancuso ended his jump festival in third. In the combined 125cc Pro and Intermediate class, Pro rider Bryan Clevenger abscond· ed with the holeshot, followed by Jason Laudermilk and Scotty Bloom. Laudermilk and Bloom had their hands full right from the getgo, as Miles Warren and the second Pro rider, Andy Page, were right on their tails. It wasn't long before Warren made his way by Bloom and went after Laudermilk. Page had a littie trouble, though, and stalled his YZ250F fourstroke, and by the time he restarted it, he was out of contention for the Pro·c1ass win. Like o YES!
