Y UGHT SALEM, OR, JAN, 3-4 Yamaha-mounted Ryan Terlecki made his third appearance of the 2002-03 season at Forster Uvestock Pavilion a successful one, as the 24-year-old from Stayton, Oregon, stomped the competition en route to a pair of overall Pro-class wins on Friday during round seven of the CMC Northwest Winter Series. Terlecki, who last year held the National number 97, aced the 125cc and 250cc Pro classes, and he was joined in the winner's circle by Idaho's Sam DeAtley. The Suzukimounted DeAtley was the dominant force in the 80cc ranks on the first of two consecutive nights of racing and won the BOcc (14-16) and Supermini (Division Two) classes, Gared Steinke went one step further by winning the 60cc Senior, 80cc (9-11) and Supermini (Division One) classes, On Saturday, Shawn Haberlock, Pete Sannan, R.J, Leach and Brandon Barber were four of the elite handful of riders to collect double-class wins. Polini rider Brayden Massey has been impressive in his Salem appearances; on Friday. Massey scored his first overall win in the Pee Wee (0-6) class, winning both motos. KTM-mounted Jeremy Wilton was Massey's closest competition in the class and went 2-2 for second overall, followed by Cobra pilot Conner Mitchell (3-3). In the same race, Barber started off his weekend the right way by winning the competitive Pee Wee (7-8) class while riding his Husqvama, KTM jockey Nolan Beyer and Cobra-mounted Jonathan Andrew trailed Barber in each of the motos, although it was Andrew (3-2) who nabbed second overall after Beyer finished seventh in moto two, which was still good for fourth overall. Though the former KTM and Husaberg factory·supported rider was the lone 125cc Pro in a combined field of Over 30 and Before The Hill contestants, Terlecki had his nemesis. Ryan Leach, to contend with. Leach, contesting the combined Up The Hill (Over 25) class, fended off the 125cc-mounted Terlecki in both motos, although both wound up overall winners in their respective classes. In fact, the top four in the race - Leach, Terlecki, Before The Hill rider Pete Sannan and Over 30 Pro Corey Pace - were all individual overall winners, Terlecki had an answer for all of Leach's challenges in the 250cc Pro class and took home the top money after a reversal of their earlier confrontation. This time it was Terlecki who assumed the point position in the two meetings; Leach (2-2) finished second, trailed by the elder of the two Terlecki brothers, Gary. KTM rider Sannan, who was making his return to action from an injury, was the lone 125cc Intermediate rider, and he capped off a twowin evening by running right in the thick of the Professional riders in his comeback ride, The DeAtley brothers, Sam and Matt, made the trek from Lewiston, Idaho, a worthwhile one after Sam posted impressive overall wins on Friday and Matt finished second in the second of the two Supermini·c1ass divisions. Matt also finished second to local Kawasaki rider Gared Steinke in the 80cc (9-1 I) class. Steinke also had a stellar day, topping Division One of the Supermini class by finishing ahead of Travis McClinton, Aaron McClinton. and another Idaho rider, Kyle Evans. It was a DeAtley one-two sweep in the aforementioned Division Two; Cody Hockema and Grant Hall placed third and fourth overall, respectively. On Saturday, Yamaha-mounted Shawn Haberlock journeyed down from the Portland area to trounce the competition in the aocc ranks. much as Sam had the previous evening. Haberlock's evening started off with a win in the Supermini class, although faststarting Danny Gubser got the jump on the field. Gubser's lead, though, was of short duration, as Haberlock bolted past Gubser on lap three and would lead from that point to the finish. Aaron ran a solid third throughout the moto and would finish there, ahead of his twin brothers, Travis and Tyler. Mota two was much the same. although Haberlock grabbed the lead right out of the chute and then held the point position to the finish. Gubser ran second from the get-go to the checkered flag, earning second overall on a 2-2 tally. Aaron's consistent 3-3 placings eamed the Albany, Oregon. rider third overall, followed by Tyler and Travis, who rounded out the top five. After winning the Pee Wee (7-8) class for the second night in a row Barber finished off the evening impressively by winning the halftime Husky Challenge race. Being the most familiar with the Italian marque didn't hurt Barber any. as Barber beat nemesis Andrew for a win, Ben Terry, Wyatt Fowler and Massey completed the top five in the Bill's Motorcycles Plus-backed event, Central Wisconsin Ice Racing Association Opening Race: Snyder Lake Farrell's Cream of the Ice Crop two-stoke Kawasaki, took the early lead, Cycle Craft's Don Waldbueser, on the fourstroke 600cc Yamaha, charged through the field and battled for the lead. With two laps remaining, Waldbueser took the outside line and drove around Strangfeld for the victory. Scott Winkler took third, with Tony Giorno fourth. The bar was set with these two fast races, and the rest of the 26 classes raced their heat races to see who would make it to the finals, Chicago land's Farrell wasted no time charging into the lead in the Open Pro final. He just checked out, and the battles were all behind him. Young, on the big-bore Honda, charged through the pack to battle with Strangfeld for fourth. Going high and cutting down low, he finally got by to secure fourth. Lance Wollin made up for his poor heat-race results by grabbing second, with Bean third. In the Open C class, heat winner Wothreng fell while working his 600cc Yamaha through traffic.
