Perris Raceway Rolling Hills Cycle Park Derby and McKay More Than Okay Hovis Rolls On at Rolling Hills By BOB AlloY By MARK NEaENS PERRIS. CA, NOV. 10 Expecting mudholes and standing water after a day of rain, it was a real treat to find that neither were a real problem at Perris Raceway. Fate was good to the 33 ROTMXers who turned out and once again let them enjoy another good day of challenges on a good track, Mike McKay looked more than just okay. In fact. he looked nothing less than spectacular .s he soared over all those doubie jumps. He blasted around the course, le.ding lap .fter lap in both Amateur Over 40 motos .nd taking the overall title. Michael Mosca had only. midpack start but powered his way through the traffic to nail a good and fast second place. while Richard Lamis scored third. Sixth-placed Mike Marek fared much better in moto two. This time around, he zipped across the finish with second, and the consistently good 1..llmis fired his Yamaha across the line with third, Amateur Over 50 rider Frank Derby certainly knew the right things to do on those double jumps and deep whoop-de-doos, and with great skill he racked up double-moto wins, Bany Simon slipped his KTM into high gear and smoked the course, finishing as runner-up, Wayne Rathledge's holeshot beginning and second-place finish in moto two was something to be proud of. The Novice Over 50 race featured quite a contest between John Webb and Asker Lamkjaer, and they really showed their stuff as they seriously challenged one lInother for the win. Webb began the show as the leading man, with a very determined Lamkj.er lurking close beh.ind and eager to pass. Mighty Webb allowed no passing and steadfastly held on. beating Lamkjaer to the finish. Webb got off with a great holeshot st.rt in malo two, Lamkjaer was again in hot pursuit. This adrenaline rush continued for three more laps until Webb stalled his Honda in a large whoop-de-doo on lap four, Larnkjaer's persistence and endurance paid off. as he passed Webb and collected first this time. There will surely be a sequel in the ne.r future. Bob Alloy was in the right place at the right time and picked up second place. REIDSVILLE, NC, NOV, g The final weekend of racing in Reidsville for 2002 featured a beautiful Saturday. Rain earlier in the week made for damp conditions on race day at round 15 of the AMA District 29 Summer/Fall Series. In 125cc A action, Blake Hovis took the holeshot and left Mark Wagner and Brandon Langdon behind. Wagner and Langdon went side by side into the third tum and got together and both went down, Wagner was the first up. and he took off in second, Along with the 125cc A class, the 250cc Band C classes were staged right behind, Malcolm Klepp took the B-c1ass lead, followed by Noah Huskey. The C class followed. with Steven Dayton and Dauid Growe the leaders. Behind them was B rider Shawn Neilsen, who got a bad start but was trying aggressively to make up time. By the end of the first lap, Neilsen had passed Dayton and Growe and was going after Huskey. Dayton took a spill in the double after the tum and went down, which let Growe by to take first in the 250cc C class, Meanwhile, up front, Hovis was running a clean race by himself, with Wagner a distant second. Neilsen made the pass on Huskey for second in class, and Klepp was holding his class' lead out front. Neilsen didn't have enough time to get Klepp, but he didn't let up until the checkered flag came out. Neilsen wouldn't make that mistake in the second moto. taking first for first overall, and Huskey took second for third overall, while Klepp scored third in the second moto for second overall. Hovis walked away with a I-I for first overall in the 125cc A class. followed by Wagner (2-2) and Langdon (3-3), Hovis was equally impressive in the 250cc A class, walking away with a I-I win, followed by Wagner (2-2) and Langdon (3-3) again. Neilsen took a commanding lead in the I 25cc B class on his YZ250F to go I-I, Jeremy Jacobs went 2-2 and Klepp went 3-3, In 125cc C action, Growe had more competition, Growe took first in the first moto but ended up falling to second in the second moto, behind Matt Scarboro. who then took a spill and covered himself in mud, Growe still took first overall, with T.L. Greene second and Scarboro third. Results AM 40.: I. Mike McKay (Su:); 2. Richard lamia (Yam); 3. Mlchael Moeca (Yam). EX 40...: 1. PhilIp Cnu. (Yam); 2. rm WilI1am5 (Vam); 3. John runrnermans (Hon).
