(Left) Gerrlt Ordelman wrapped up a nearly perfect 250cc Pro campaign at the fourth round of the CMC Trans-Cal National Series South, winning again after leading every lap but one throughout the entire series! STORV AND PHOTOS BV JOHN BETHEA PERRIS, CA, OCT. 20 r. errit Ordelman put the finishing '"" touches on a nearly perfect 250cc Pro campaign by again sweeping both motos in the fourth and final qualifying round of the Southern California portion of the White Brothers 2002 CMC Trans-Cal Nationals, held at Perris Raceway. The J. Jones/ DLB/Big Gun-sponsored YZ racer led nearly every lap of every moto in the series, except the time when a stuck throttle left him at the side of the track on the final lap of the only race he lost. On this day, he again led from start to finish in both races, each time being trailed by Chaparral/No Fear-sponsored Yamaha rider Jason Ciarletta, who relegated RG3/Steve's Cycles Suzuki jockey Pat McMullen to third overall, after Ciarletta had beaten Ordelman two weeks ago. Answer Products' Brandon Milstead, the Southland's top Sportsman racer who's seeking series championships in three classes, found the going tough in the last outing before the two-day finals, scheduled for the following week. He won both Over 25 Masters events, over the always-tough-to-beat Jon Zahrt, on a Straight-Lines Suspension Kawasaki, but Milstead got knocked back to reality in the 125cc and 250cc Intermediate contests. In the 250cc Intermediate class, JBC/FMF-backed Honda rider Jeff Loop recorded victories in both motos, while Milstead was toiling in second. In the first race, Milstead tangled with WRR/O'Neal Yamahamounted Matthew Williams in a tight race for second and could only manage third, even though he was closing on Brent Line's Nomadik Kawasaki as the checkers came out. Milstead appeared to be on track for the second-moto victory when he passed Loop on lap two, but then he took a header that left him out of contention and fifth overall. Gabe Obeso rode a Thor/Bert's Yamaha to second place in the last moto, and that was enough to propel him to runner-up overall. Milstead, who still appears to be a heavy favorite at the finals in Marysville, was also stymied in the 125s, as he got off to a midpack start in the first moto and could only work his way up to second place, behind Jarred Browne, who just recently made the jump from Team Green to West Coast and American Suzuki. Browne led all six laps, with Goat/Axo-sponsored Brian Hulsey coming in third at the end. Hulsey then blasted into the lead in the second moto and held it, while Milstead bailed out of the race on the second lap for a DNF, and Browne moved into second early but was unable to improve on that position. One rider who did make his presence felt in this 125cc race was Mike Alessi, who was contesting the Supermini class, in the second wave off the line. In the first moto, Alessi, who is riding solo under the Alessi Brothers banner while his brother Jeff's broken foot heals, worked his way up to fourth overall by the time the white flag appeared. But he was even more impressive against the Intermediates in the second moto, when he had actually caught up to (Above) Brian Hulsey (531). Jarred Browne (425). Califomia. fourth by the end of lap two and placed third, behind Hulsey and Browne, at the checkered flag. Since Alessi also captured three other class wins on the day - the 80cc Open, 80cc (14-16) and Schoolboy - many of the small-bore racers can't wait till he makes the jump to take on the big boys - permanently. It was, by the way, the second time this year Alessi had won four classes at a major CMC event (he did it at the Golden State Series at Glen Helen last winter). eN Perris Bee. .ey Perris, Celifombl Results: 0=11..
