Klinefelter Not Inclined to Lose last May, arrived on the heels of his win at the DuQuoin Mile in Illinois just two weeks ago. In the first Open Expert heat. Marylander Chris Klinefelter took the lead while brothers Joe and Tim Eades chased him on the first two laps. Directly behind the Eades was Bryan Douglas. who slipped in some oil spilled from another bike and tumbled just before turn one. The race was red-flagged on the third lap while rescue workers tended to Douglas. who was later released from the hospital with a concussion and soft-tissue bruising. Once the green fiag flew again. Klinefeiter regained his lead and held on to win the heat. with Joe and Tim Eades a close second and third. respectively. In the second heat, Shawn Baer took the lead from Hacker on the second lap and never looked back. He protected his line and left Hacker and Curt Jones behind to battle for second. Jones emerged the victor for a second-place finish, and Hacker crossed the white line third. Since Baer's heat was the fastest, he started the Open Expert main in the choice position, with Klinefelter to his right. However, the riders' concentration may have been broken when the race was restarted after Ben Walters went down between turns three and four on the first lap. Walters' bike was broken and he was unable return to the field. On the restart, Klinefelter quickly jumped into first, and Baer spent the rest of the laps fighting to catch and pass him, to no avail. Hacker, who began the race on the outside of the front row, raced into third by the first full lap but never passed Baer, settling for a third-place finish. Joe Eades. Curt Jones and Wesley Kite followed. By MICHEllE MAy CHIMENTO Results T~(Yaml 125 C: I. Scott Schindler (Suz); 2. Ausbn Bfack (KTM); 3 Wesley Gordon (Yam): 4 Travl:t MiUer (Kaw): 5.
