Nate Crofoot lifted off the starting pad and
rocketed out in front of the class in moto two,
looking to improve on his fifth-place finish in
moto one. Robinson and Doyle were locked
peg to peg through the corners and were
almost flying united over the doubles, triples,
and tabletop jumps. Nichols also improved on
his moto-one start, in fourth place, and he
began fending off the challenges of the experienced JOMthan Kriegbaum. Crofoot's Hond~
lost its footing while leading, ~nd Robinson
~nd Doyle both flew by ~nd caught some
more big air. Kriegbaum and Nichols were
now wingtip to wingtip, sailing, and Beehler
was struggling in sixth place. Doyle staged his
own great battle with Robinson for the lead in
a two-bike breakaway, with first overall at
stake. They produced a high-speed accordion
effect, as Doyle would close in, and rocketman Robinson would respond by pulling away
slightly. Meanwhile, Nichols and Beehler had
both made the pass on Crofoot stick, and the
Motocross Force was with them. Doyle skyrocketed over a pair of doubles to pull right
alongside Robinson in a battle down the back
stretch. Doyle took the lead, but on the return
flight Robinson was out front by half a bikelength. Robinson re-entered the atmosphere
~fter passing over the 10,OOO-galion tabletop
and claimed first overall on a I-I tally, over a
great field of talented riders. Doyle (2-2)
streaked to second overall. Nichols (4-3) took
third overall. Beehler (3-4) lost his grip in
moto two but held on to fourth over~lI, and
Crofoot (5-5) kept his footing on the path to
fifth overall.
