Happenings In Motorcycling
Walks The Walk
Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. and Muzzy's Kawasaki factory drag racer Rickey Gadson
recently participated in Macy's Department Stores Passport 20/02 fund-raising event.
There's no doubt that Gadson stole the spotlight when he rode the Swarovski crystal·
encrusted Kawasaki Ninja ZX-12R down the runway during the Iceberg fashion segment.
Kawasaki donated the one-of-akind Ninja - which was created by
New York city-based designer Leeora Catalan of NOIR - to be auctioned at the Los Angeles event.
The Ninja by Noir has also
appeared in People, Vogue, Vibe,
and USA Today, among other pubIlcations, and was also featured on
the VH l/Vogue Video Fashion
Awards, and in promotions for Mariah Carey's movie, Glitter.
The auctions, held in both San
Francisco and Los Angeles, raised
a total of $147,700 for HIV/AIDS
research, prevention, treatment,
and care. The winning bidder on the
Ninja by Nair was track and field
superstar athlete Marion Jones.
Jones won five medals in the 2000
Olympic Games In Sydney, and in
the late 1990s was called "the
fastest woman on the planet. "
In accordance with Macy's public relations pollcy, the amounts of
winning bids on the various individual auction items are not disclosed.
