Pro Circuit Texas/Oklahoma Regional Classic Series Round 2: Swan Raceway Park Mark Rakestraw kept It smooth en route to winning the Over 40 class at round two of the Pro Circuit Texas/Oklahoma Regional Classic Series at Swan Raceway Park In Tyler, Texas. STORY AND PHOTOS BY CONNIE JOHNSON TYLER, IX, SEPT. 7·8 ark Rakestraw took his second win in as many races at round two of the Pro Circuit Texas/Oklahoma Regional Classic Series. Swan Raceway Park in Tyler, Texas, hosted this round, and treated more than 700 riders to an awesome track and some great racing. Rakestraw kept his points lead alive by putting his Kawasaki on top of the podium in the Over 40 class. Honda rider Mark Lamb beat everyone off the gate in moto one, but it wasn't long before Rakestraw got around him and took off. A challenger showed up by the name of Bobby Handy, but some misfortune in the back woods left the KTM rider with a DNF and gave Rakestraw an easy win. Another KTM rider, Cary "Pete" Watson, held on to second, while Todd Watson settled for third on his Kawasaki. Honda riders Mark Lamb and Stephen Ash took fourth and fifth. The rain started coming down for the second moto, but Handy had better luck in the rain and pulled off a first, while Rakestraw hung in there for second, giving him the first-overall trophy. Todd rode consistently and finished third, while Ash finished ahead of Lamb. The Over 30 C class only got to race one moto due to the heavy rain, and John McLemore made the best of it, bypassing the pileup in the first turn and keeping his Honda out in front until the checkers flew. Gary Reed kept his Honda in second while KTM-mounted Brian Bond held off hard-charging Honda rider Chris Loy. Jeff Bernier, on a Yamaha, had to settle for fifth after Loy got by him on lap two. Honda rider J.J. Pecsok made mincemeat out of the Four-Stroke class, nailing the holeshot and never looking back. The charge of the day was made by Yamaha rider Gary Harrison, who moved through the pack to finish third behind another Yamaha jockey, Aaron Smith. As this race M was also finished after one moto, Honda rider Dustin Hoppe and Yamaha rider Randall Williams had to settle for their first-moto finishes of fourth and fifth, respectively. One other race that did manage to get in two motos was the 250cc C class, though they raced their second moto in a downpour. In moto one, Jansin McCoy came from behind to put his Honda in first, with Kawasaki jockey Travis McWilliams in second. Cannondale rider Johnny Overby, Kawasaki jockey Justin Harris and Yamaha-mounted Eric Cagle all went through the last section of the track neck and neck in a dramatic race to the finish for third. Overby took third by a hair, with Harris and Cagle crossing the finish line in fourth and fifth. With all the mud in mota two, it was hard to tell the riders apart, but McCoy got out in front early, only to succumb to the speed of Suzuki rider Ty Fletcher, who stayed on two wheels long enough to see the checkers and take first, with Cagle taking second. Brian Gamer rode his Yamaha better in the mud and finished third, while McCoy dropped to fourth and Harris finished fifth. Another class that only got to race one moto was the 125cc Open class. Nobody could touch Robbie Smith on his Yamaha. He absconded with the holeshot and took off, with Yamaha rider Zach Blackwell being the only one able to stay close. Following behind Blackwell and crossing the finish Hne in third was Honda rider Danny Kelsey, with Yamaha pilot Mark Blackwell and Honda rider Greg Chapman rounding out the top five. 5.
