Pro Circuit Texas/Oklahoma Regional Classic Series Round 1: Village Creek MX Park (Left) Cody Dickey stayed on two wheels to collar the 125cc B vlctory at the Pro CIrcuit Texas/Oklahoma Regional Classic Series opener. (RIght) Josh Demuth flew through the air with the greateat of ease as he dominated the 12!1cc and 250cc Pro classes at Village Creek MX Park. Moore, Honda rider Greg Chapman, and Aaron Smith rounding out the top five. The man with the target on his back in the 250cc Pro class was Josh Demuth. The Yamaha rider got off the gate first and stayed there, with his only competition coming from Kawasaki jockey Shane Doughty. They put quite a gap on the rest of the field in moto one, while another war was raging for third, between Yamaha pilot Micah Thibodeaux and KX rider Jeremy Durrett. After a tight race, Thibodeaux took third, leaving fourth for Durrett. Scotty Trimble put his Yamaha into the fifth-place spot. Doughty was the showstopper of the second moto. Finishing lap one in fourth, Doughty twisted the throttle and charged after Trimble, in third. Doughty made the pass in the rhythm section at the beginning of the whiteflag lap. Trimble passed him back; then Doughty stuffed him in the next corner and took off. As he approached the triple just before the finish line, Doughty made another charge. Jumping the triple together, Doughty and Durrett went into the last turn before the finish line, with Doughty on the inside. Doughty crossed the finish in second, behind Demuth, dropping Durrett to third. Joe Bailey III rode his Honda to fourth, with Thibodeaux taking fifth. In the first Over 30 B moto, Yamaha-mounted Steve Jones got the jump off the gate, with Kawasaki jockey William Sutton in his back pocket. Though Jones couldn't get away from Sutton, he managed to stay in front of him, while Sutton had to start riding defensively to keep Honda rider Andy Reynolds from getting by. Jones held off Sutton and Sutton held off Reynolds, leaving fourth to Cannondale rider Franz Hyland Jr. and fifth to Yamaha rider Kevin Lizarraga. STORY AND PHOTOS BY CONNIE JOHNSON AND THE BECKSTER FORT WORTH, TX, AUG. 31·SEPT. 1 he Pro Circuit Texas/Oklahoma Regional Classic opened Labor Day Weekend at Village Creek MX Park. More than 700 riders showed up for the first round of the five-race series, which is worth almost $200,000 in factory contingencies. This series has become quite popular since its inception six years ago. People from Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas attend all five races and vie for the prizes and the recognition. Also, only the best of the best tracks are included in the Classic. The PCRC just keeps getting better and better - and bigger and biggerl Managing to beat the other 30 riders on the gate for the first 125cc B moto was KTM-mounted Cody Dickey. Mark Blackwell put his Yamaha out in front after escaping a big pileup in the first turn. Yamaha rider Aaron Smith also missed the pile-up, took over and held the lead for a couple of laps until a mistake on the doubles after the finish line gave him a taste of good ole Texas dirt and dropped him back to sixth. Dickey capitalized on Smith's mistake and took over the lead, holding off Yamaha pilot Lance Hollister to the checkers. Yamaha riders Blackwell, Jesse Moore and Robbie Smith followed. Moto two saw another multiplebike crash that left one rider knocked out and caused the race to be redflagged. Blackwell, Dickey, Moore, Hollister and Aaron finished lap one at a blistering pace, battling for position. By the end of lap two, Dickey was in the lead, with Hollister on his back fender. The top five fought hard and fast, but after they crossed the finish line the last tim.e, the bragging rights went to Dickey, with Hollister, 54 OCTOBER 9, 2002' cue • .. n e _ s Sutton took the moto-two holeshot, leaving Jones and Reynolds battling for second. Reynolds fell on the top section of the track while trying to pass Jones and turned third place over to Lizarraga. Mike Vargas moved his Yamaha into fourth, and Hyland finished fifth. Lots of fast kids showed up for the 85-112cc (7-11) Junior Open/Big Wheel class. Shooting out of the gate in first was Trey Canard. Fellow Kawasaki jockey Hunter Hewitt was all over Canard as they went up the hill for the first time. The top five were all close. Hewitt crashed in the top section, allowing Chaz Holladay to put his Yamaha into second, with Kawasaki rider Tyler Wharton all over his back fender. The finishing order was Canard, Holladay, Wharton, Yamaha-mounted Tyler Burns, and Hewitt. Canard again took the holeshot in moto two, with Holladay, Hewitt and Wharton in tow. By the end of lap one, Hewitt had moved into second and then passed Canard on the triple for the lead. Canard repassed Hewitt in the rhythm section on lap three, but Hewitt wouldn't stay put - Hewitt crossed the checkers with Canard right behind him. Rounding out the top five were Wharton, Holladay and Burns. If the opening round was any indication, this is going to be a very competitive and exciting series to watch. eN Village c....
