(Left! Brent Line topped the Before The Hill class in San Jacinto, Califomla. (Right) Richie Owens placed second in the 250cc Pro class and third in the 125cc Pro class. (Below) Jason Jones, nephew of former 250cc National Champion Gary Jones, won the Over 25 Amateur contest. (Left! Though Micky Griffin won the first 250cc Intermediate moto, he lost the second outing to Corey Murphey, who won the overall. 125cc Pro class, while Gerrit Ordelman was sweeping the 250cc Pro class. Lord, riding a factory-prepared RM, got the lead immediately in the first 125cc moto and spent the entire race setting the pace, ahead of Pro Circuit riders Beavers and Kawasaki jockey Justin Mace, who were running second and third all the way. Team Green's Richie Owens overcame a poor start and fought his was up to take over fourth on the final lap. When they met again in the next moto, Lord's possible sweep became less likely when Beavers took over the lead on lap two. For the remaining seven laps, the pair battled it out for the overall, oftentimes only a few feet apart, but with Beavers weathering all confrontations from Lord, who was also feeling pressure from Owens in third. When the dust settled, the trio finished in that order. And there was dust. It seems the huge water tank that was prominently seen on the far side of the track could not be used. The reservation chiefs refused to allow track officials from using water piped in from a nearby lake. so water trucks needed to make treks outside the confines of the track facility to roadside hydrants. And the silty riverbottom soil didn't stay moist very long in the warm conditions, which worsened when the afternoon breezes came up. However, the elements didn't dampen the efforts of Ordelman in the 250cc Pros as he dominated all 16 laps of the pair of eight-Iappers on his J. Jones/Race Tech Yamaha. In the first moto, Ordelman's advantage was over Renthal/Scott Yamaha rider Jeremy Chaussee. Richie Owens, working his way up from fifth, was closing in third at the end, and then he used a better start in the second moto to battle with Kevin Townsend, on the Mid Cities Fastco Honda, in the early stages for runner-up. A late charge by Chaussee moved him into third by race's end, giving him third overall, behind Owens. In the Intermediate waves running in the same races, Donnie Weber swept the 125s on a Smith Suzuki after Maxxis/Goat-backed Yamaha rider Micky Griffin and N-Style/FMFbacked Honda pilot Corey Murphy traded wins and runner-up finishes in the 250cc Intermediate class, with Murphy winning the deciding second moto. 80 BEG: I. He overcame a midpack start in the first moto to take second, behind Tye Hames, on the Factory Effex Kawasaki. Then he blasted away in the next moto for the overall victory on the Team Kawasaki/Pax entry. The Tedder clan was well-represented all day long, led by father Matt, a former Pro who on this day captured the Old-Timers Masters class on his White Brothers Honda before adding a third-place finish in the Vet Masters class, behind JBC/Answer-backed Yamaha rider Phil Dowell and Simi Suzuki jockey Jon Zahrt. Then the Tedder tots took over, as Dakota won the 60cc (9-11) class, Myles aced the 80cc Open class, Chasen placed second among the 80cc Beginners, Maxwell placed third among the Pee Wee Beginners, and Matthew placed sixth in the Schoolboy clique.
