II week long, the phone calls kept
coming in. A news report in the
Riverside Press Enterprise had stated
that Competition Park was as good as
closed because of squabbling
between family members of the
landowners, the Soboba Indian tribe.
Many want the track closed. Signed
contracts, track operators insist, will
keep it open. Ultimately, the courts
will decide.
"I heard the track was closed;
where are you running?" was the
common question.
"The track is open and the we will
be there," was the CMe's response.
The fate of the MX des Nations,
slated to be held here less than a
month from now, may still be clouded, but this day's event - the opening
round of the CMC Trans-Cal National
Motocross Series - did, indeed, take
place.
"But many riders apparently were
frightened away," added CMC president Stu Peters, promoter of the 21 st
annual, White Brothers-supported
Trans-Cal series.
Headlining the professional side of
the program, Suzuki riders Daton
Beavers and Dylan Lord put on a
great show for those attending as
they battled for supremacy in the
