Delta Park Raceway The Storm's A-Comin' By JaSTIN WHARTON PORTLAND,OR,AUG.29 There was a large turnout for the Insane Terrain Day at Delta Park Raceway, with a few hotshot Pros deciding to try their luck at the challenging course. A few very fast Intermediates also showed up - including Ryan Huege, Joel Ard and Joey Mancuso - to racing at the infamous outdoor night racetrack. In the first combined 125cc Intermediate/ Pro moto, Demarini-backed Mike Storm absconded with the holeshot, followed by Intermediates Huege and Drew Davis. Storm immediately started to put more than a second per lap on his competition. Behind him were Huege and then Tim Halas, who tried to stay in third, but speedster Andy Page passed him on the second lap to take over third. After that, the top five settled into their positions, but back in the pack no one was satisfied, as Ard, Davis and usual top contender Todd Blanchard swapped spots a few times until, with three laps to go, everyone settled into their spots. Ard came out ahead of Davis and Bianchard. Storm took the win, followed by the top Intermediate, Huege, and Page in third. Holas finished fourth, and Honda of Saint Johns/Doma Pipes/Twin Air-sponsored Ard nabbed fifth. Davis took the mota-two holeshot, with Storm and Huege hot on his \ail. By the second lap, Storm was once again in control, putting as much ground between hjmself and his competitors as possible. Huege again held down second place. and Page gave chase after taking a lap or so trying to get by Davis. However. as in the first moto, Page couldn't put anything together to pressure Huege, one of the Northwest's fastest Intermediates, Halas stayed right on Page's tail the entire race, just waiting for him to make a bobble so he could take over third, but Page rode almost flawlessly and was able to hold off Holas ail the way to the checkers, In the end, Storm proved once again that he's the king of Delta Park by taking the win in the Pro class with a 1-1 tally, foilowed by Page (2-2), Holas (3·3) and disappointed KTM rider Blanchard (4-4). Winning the Intermediate class was the Cycle Country of Salem/Spy-sponsored Huege (1-1), followed by up-and-comer Ard (2-2) and Davis (3-3). Double-class winners of the night included Huege. in the 125cc and 250cc Intermediate classes, and Kyle Garman, in the 60cc (9-11) and 60cc Open classes. Another exciting division, and always the crowd's favorite, was the 50cc classes. In the 50cc (4-6) class, Polini-mounted Aaron Blaine had a two-mota sweep, ahead of Jonathan Andrew and Conner Mitcheil. The 50cc (7-8) class was all Brad Frace's; the only time his competition even got to see him was on the starting line, as he put at least three to four seconds per lap on his opponents in both motos. Taking second was rival Kasey Wallace, and finishing out the podium was Talyn Taylor. Rounding out the top five were Husky rider John Foeckler and Matthew Shirley. 24 hour Glen Helen RICK DANIEL WINS IRON MAN 2350 Orangethorpe, Anaheim, CA 92806 Ph: 114-449-1211 • FAX: 114-449-1314 ~---------------------------------------------- a o o Name Address City _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ State Phone a Zip Order Date Send to: ~ 1lJ.IlII.IlII, Inc. a o o po.
