tied back and forth, with the lead changing no less than four times. On the last lap. Roberts made the pass stick and took the win, over Lewis. Josh Burdett ran a good race for third. Burdett also took the 85cc (9-13) win. The 85cc (7-11) contest was led from start to finish by Derek Rogers, with Walker Mayo finishing second, Charles Whitley third. and Matt Timm fourth. The 250cc C contest was an excellent race. Charlie Evans took the holeshot, followed by Jermain Duncan and Torre Streilthau, QUickly, Streilthau made a pass to get around Duncan, but Evans was easily in the lead - until a wreck by Evans in some deep mud let Streifthau catch up, and then another mistake let Streilthau get by to take the win. Evans recovered for second, end Duncan, who had his share of bad luck, finished up a strong third. New Mexico's David Jensen looked supersmooth on his Garner's Yamahas, bringing home two class overalls, in the Schoolboy and 250cc Intermediate classes, along with a second~place finish in the 125cc Intermediates. Michelin Tires/Thor/Renthal/Motul/EBRbacked Charles Castloo claimed first in the 125cc Intermediates and second in the 125cc Open contest after a race-long battle with Jensen, Honda-mounted Danny Kelsey, Clint Breslin and Blake Revels, The Over 35 class belonged to Jamie Killion alter he pulled a textbook holeshot in front of 15 other competitors. This class was screaming with talent, keeping .the pack superclose for several laps before finally spreading out. Killion finished out his day with a 1-1 score. North Valley Honda rider David Myres from Scottsdale, Arizona, kept Killion in sight but could not find that extra speed to make his move. Myres finished out on a 2-2 tally. LCS-backed Jerry Joiner and F&S Racing's Bryan Monjaras had a close race, exchanging lines throughout the event, but it was Joiner who edged out Monjaras with a 4-3 score, over his the latter's 3-4 tally. San Antonio's Dean Swanson rounded out the top five on a 7 -5 score for the day. Georgia-Alabama Championship Series Round 10: Copperhead Motocross Ward, Albers Show Brass at Copperhead around and falling, Albers kept the throttle pinned and took off for two mota wins. Searing second in 125cc C was Andrew Gaddis, who worked his way up from fifth to pass Shane Mills on the last lap for second. Miils settled for third, while Brett Dyer rode strong for fourth, Albers also dominated the Youth (12-15) class, though Blake Hankins took the holeshot before Albers could get by. Hankins took full advantage of his great start, holding on to finish second, ahead of Brett Dyer. Eduardo Cordoba continued his winning ways in the 50cc (4-6) class, taking the win on the Pee Wee track. Hudson Graham finished a hard-earned second, with L.S. Goe third. Hudson Graham took the win in the Shalt class, with Leila Mullins putting in her best ride to finish second. It wasn't easy, as Jordan Quaries attempted a last-lap pass that almost ran him off the track; he recovered for a third-place finish. Quarles then took the top step of the podium in the 50cc Oil-Injected class. The first mota of the day went off before the heaviest rain, and the Over 30 and Over 40 classes started on a slightly damp track. Mike Garrett took the holeshot in the Over 30 class, closely pursued by Mxers for Jesus' By PAC 1.EwJs Bu\IRSVlLLE, GA, AUG, 25 The Georgia-Alabama Championship Series kicked off its fall portion at Copperhead Motocross in Blairsville, Georgia. Someone forgot to tell the weather, though, because it failed to cooperate; rain tumed this excellent track into a muddy mess, and only the bravest riders ventured onto the track for their motos. After several rain delays, a European·style, one-moto format was elected to score the overalls on the day. Probably the most impressive ride was that of Suzuki Yamaha of Dalton's Chad Ward, who snared the holeshot in the 125cc A class and checked out, leaving everyone else to battle for second. Riding as though the track were in perfect condition, Ward was doubling and tripling jumps that fellow Pro riders were rolling over. Extreme Cycles' Jon Boy Monk put in a good ride to finish second, and SYD's Cody Watford finished third. The only double-class winner was Auston Albers, taking the overail in both the 125cc C and Youth (12-15) classes. Albers also apparently didn't realize that it had rained, because his performances in both of his classes were very similar. Cozadd took the point position and was in control of the moto before Garrett made the pass for the win on the last lap. Greg Roberts led the Over 40 class through the first tum, but then a fall cost him the lead. Benny Durrough took the lead and held on for a couple of laps before Roberts could recover and overtake him for the win. Durrough took second, with a hard-charging Bobby Slayton third. lach Osbome made the trek from Virginia to Copperhead and tumed some heads in the Supermini class. Freewheeling Honda's Jase Lewis wanted to show he was the man to beat in that class, though. Through the first tum, it was reigning Women's 80-1 05cc National Champion Leah Cantrell leading the pack. Lewis and Osborne squeezed by on the first lap, but Osborne fell, leaving the lead in Lewis' hands. Cantrell was pressuring Lewis heavily, but Lewis wouldn't crack. While those two were battling for the lead, Osborne was back on the move to the front of the pack. With one lap to go, Osborne moved into the iead. Cantrell was in third but shOWing Lewis a wheel in every comer. Lewis' bike had taken on some water and was bogging very badly, but he managed to hold off the charging Cantrell for second. The 85cc (12-15) class featured another battle involving Lewis, only this time it was with Gregory Roberts. Roberts and Lewis bat- 50 SHAFT: I. Conner Gr.llhllm (Yam); 2. Lelia Mulhns (Yam): 3. Parts Canada Superbike Championship Round 6: Shannonville Motorsport Park Lacombe's First By JOHN HOPKINS SHANNONVILLE, ON, CANADA. SEPT. 1 An era came to an end with the final round of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship, as the curtain fell on the unlimited Superbike era in Canada. Perhaps fittingly, three of the purebred Superbikes filled the podium in the last event before the introduction of a horsepowerlimited Nationai class in 2003. Granby Quebec, racer Kevin Lacombe scored his first career National Superbike win aboard the Orion Motorsport Honda RC51. The immensely talented 19-year-old blitzed into the iead off the start and charged to a 5.714-second victory on Shannonville's 2.5-mile "Long Track." He was followed home by Owen Welchel, on the Canadian Kawasaki Motors Kawasaki lX7RR. Outgoing class champion Steve Crevier, the man Lacombe replaced in the factory team after he was injured, claimed third on another Orion Honda RC51. "This was the last Superbike race, and I wanted to win it so bad," said Lacombe.
