Wild West Nationals Round SB: Noise Motocross Parle Williams, Johnson Double Up By DAVE ROONSEVEU.E IDAHO FAll.S, ID, AUG. 18 Brandon Barnes and Pete Roberts were equally matched all weekend. After splitting overall wins on Saturday. the two clashed again on Sunday. The outcome was the same, with a slight twist: Roberts won the 125s (with a 2-1 tally) and Barnes the won the 250s (With a 2-1 tally) - just the opposite from Saturday's results. Beni Williams worked his way to a big-bike win in the Open Amateur class on a bigwheel, Supermini 105cc Suzuki. Williams also captured the 80cc (12-15) class win. Daniel Johnson used a 2-1 tally to spoil Williams' perfect day by taking the Supermini class, over Williams' 1-2 finishes. Johnson also col- lected an overall In the 125cc Intermediate class. With Williams most likely moving to the 125cc class next year. a clash between these young stars appears to be in their future. Williams absconded with the holeshot in the first 8Ccc (12-15) moto and was looking to run away with the race. Jerad Butler, Brady Powell and Thayne Eddins were trying to keep Williams in Sight. Williams appeared to have the track dialed in and put some distance between the pack. Butler seemed to take control of second spot, with Eddins all over Powell's fender in the battie for third. Eddins would not give up, and he passed Powell in the final comer. In the next mota, Williams had to work a little after Eddins got the holeshot. Eddins went down on a tabletop and handed Williams the lead. Meanwhile, Butler and Powell were battling: Butler managed to put some space between himself and Powell in the later laps. Eddins had gotten up after his fall and he began to catch Powell. Once again, Eddins was all over Powell, and he passed him for third place on the final lap. Brandon Moses got the holeshot in the 250cc Pro class and looked comfortable in the lead. Moses had been leading for three laps when he went down in the whoops, giving the lead to Roberts, who started to pull away from the field - but he had one rider in tow: Brandon Barnes. The two walked away from the rest of the field. but Barnes was unable to real~ Iy get close enough to try a pass on Roberts. Moses once again snared the holeshot in mota two, with Cory Christiansen, Barnes and Roberts in tow. Barnes got around Chris~ tiansen and set his Sights on Moses and then passed him for the lead. Roberts was working hard to get around Christiansen and did so after a few laps. Barnes had a five-second lead at the halfway point. Roberts was making some time, but not enough, as Barnes took the win and the overall. In the first 125cc Pro moto, Steve Martin hung tough with Barnes for a couple of laps; then Barnes started to pull away. Martin was giving Roberts all he could handle: Roberts could not get around Martin. Then Martin had a quick get-off in the whoops, only losing two spots. Roberts was now in second, with Christiansen third and Martin fourth. Barnes was flat out moving and the finishing order stayed the same. In moto two, Martin almost grabbed the holeshot with his 250F, but it was snatched away from him by Barnes. Then Roberts got out in front of Barnes and was able to put some space on Barnes, and the outcome was never in question. as Roberts seemed to pull away from Barnes. Martin was able to get in front of Christiansen from the start and never let the Suzuki rider get by. Roberts (2-1) took the overall, Barnes (1-2) was second, Martin (4-3) placed third, Christiansen (3-4) was fourth and Foster (5-5) finished fifth. Noise Motocross Park Idaho Falls.
