Chad Reed
Reed looked great at the beginning of both motos
at Broome-TIoga, but crashing has plagued him at
times this year and he pitched his Boost
Moblle/Yamaba/Troy Racing YZ250F away while
leading mota one. ·1 was leading and I just had a
bit of bad luck," Reed said. "I lost the back end
and I crashed. Unfortunately, it broke the bike
pretty bad. I had to stop and have the front-brake
line taken off. In the second mota, I reaily had no
idea about the racing lines since I was riding
around without a front brake in the first moto. I
made a big mistake in the soft dirt and my hand
came off the handlebar. I hit my chest and my
clutch finger went numb. After that, I just rode out the race."
the high-flying Stewart would not
relinquish the lead, there was plenty
of exciting racing going on for the
remaining podium spots.
Red Bull KTM's Brock Sellards
chased Reed, while Fonseca, Sorby
and Jesseman battled hard for the
fourth spot. On the fifth lap, Jesseman pulled up to, caught, and passed
Sorby on a downhill section, then set
his sights on Sellards. Three laps
later, the Suzuki pilot was right on
Sellards' tail, but he pushed it a bit
too hard and went down, getting
passed by Sorby and Fonseca. Jesseman recovered quickly, caught Fonseca, and soon after Sorby.
On the final lap, Sellards was all
over Reed, but he went down while
attempting to pass the Yamaha rider
on the back part of the course.
"There was about three spots left
on the track where I think I could
have passed him," Sellards said. "I
took a chance, rolled the dice and
wound up getting caught up in some
soft dirt and having my front tire
wash out. It was a bad decision - I
went down, but was able to get back
up and finish on the podium."
Stewart then capped off the afternoon in the 125cc class with a big
wheelie up the Parts Unlimited Hill, then
Emesto Fonseca (24), Brock SeUard.
(1B), Chad Reed (103) and Billy
Lanlnovlch (132) vie for the holeshot
in the 125cc NatIonal. Fonseca went
on to finish third overall.
pulled a waving, one-handed Domokoslike wheelie over the finish line.
Back at the podium celebration,
the Chevy Trucks Kawasaki team
was in full celebration mode.
"This is real important for us," said
Kawasaki skipper Bruce Stjemstrom.
"We've had our ups and downs as a
team this year, beginning with supercross. But a lot has changed with this
Chevy Trucks Kawasaki team in the
last three months. I think we've
peaked at the right time, and I'm just
so impressed with James' maturity
and growth as an individual and as a
rider. The sky's the limit [for Stewart],
maybe even more than that, for him
right now. He's got a big future in this
sport."

Michael Byrne
Amsoil(Dr. Martens/Journeys/Honda's Michael
Byrne continues to improve from the internal
injuries and numerous broken bones he suffered
at the Indy Supercross. At Broome-Tioga, he
nailed down his best overall finish of the season
and is encouraged by his progress. "I'm just starting to get back on track," said the Aussie. "I've
been riding with Mike laRocco and training, so
I'm back to about 90 percent. I got good starts
and just rode solid laps. It was sort of boring nothing really exciting happened. I feel like I'm
getting back into it."

Buddy Antunez
Multi-time Arenacross champ Buddy Antunez
continued his rollercoaster ride in and out of the
top 10 at Broome-Tioga. He scored a lackluster
12th overall at Binghamton on his factory Suzuki. ·1 was running eighth or so in the first mota
and fell over on about lap five or so," Antunez
