Barona Oaks Raceway Bruscella Returns to Oaks Roots By HOMER EUBANKS RAMONA, CA, AUG. 4 A freshly redesigned racetrack greeted 225 riders at round 11 of the Barona Oaks Motocross Series. Several long straights were added, giving riders an opportunity to try out their top gears. The Meyers Boys, Jon and David, continued having their way in the 125cc ranks, but Jon found an old nemesis, Anthony Bruscella, too much to handle in the 250cc Intermediate battles. Bruscella hadn't raced in a while and decided that returning to his Barona Oaks roots would be fun. As it turned out, he couldn't have had any more fun, as he went 1-1 on the day, riding his 250cc Suzuki in the Intermediate class. Jon Meyers made Bruscella earn his win, as Meyers went 2-2 in the class. lac Wray stayed within striking distance of the leaders in mota one until his spanking-new four-stroke Yamaha's handlebars came loose. Jon later came out in the 125cc Intermediate class, edging out his brother David for the overall. Again, lac Wray put up a good fight in this class but had to settle for third. In the Veteran wars, Ron Adams took repeat wins in the Intermediate class. The main battle was between Jay Laumier and Neal De Garmo. Laumier edged De Garmo for second in moto one, but De Garmo stole the spot in the final mote to earn second overall. Laumier went 2-3 for third overall. A total of 26 125cc Beginners didn't exactly fill the gate b~t still proved to be a little crowded going in turn one. Most of the riders made it through the mishap, and all were able to mount up and finish the race. In the first mota, Daniel Enriquez put everything together to hold off lach Johnson. In mota two, Johnson again finished second, but his 2-2 total was enough to take home the overall. Moto two was won by David Kenlon, who had finished 14th in the first mota. Brad Masters rode his 85cc Yamaha to repeat wins on the day. First Masters held off Adrian Fuller and Phillip Bruscella in the 85cc Intermediate motos. Masters then took repeat wins in the Supermini battles as well. Again, it was Fuller trailing Masters for second overall. Jake Oswald went 3-3 for third overall. Kyle Corfman is hard to beat on his 65cc KTM. Corfman had some competition from Casey Harries, as he went 2-2 for second overall in the 65cc (9-11) division. Corfman also won the 65cc Open contest with repeat wins, first winning ahead of Jake Gagne and then over Nicholas Bayerle. Bayerle went 3·2 for second. Nathan MacGilfrey put in a great ride in the 50cc (7-8) Stock class with repeat wins over Jackson Ryan. MacGilfrey had visions of repeat overalls, as he later came out and won round one of the Modified class as well. However, Ryan was able to put a move on MacGiIfrey when it counted the most to see the checkered flag before MacGilfrey. Joshua Stark went 3-3 for third overall. 78 AUGUST 28, 2002' cue I the mishap. Kutschenko came by and Huskey was back up and running, but Allison had just taken the white flag, so Huskey wouldn't have the time to make it up and had to settle for fourth. Neilsen took second, followed by Kutschenko. Allison had no problem taking the next mota, followed by Neilsen and Huskey. Kutschenko had some problems and Humphrey was there to take fourth overall, foliowed by Kutschenko. . Results 50 SHAFT: I. Dylan Carringer: 2. Austin Faulk; 3. Justin Branch. 50 (4-6): 1. East Bend Speedway East Bend is Allison's Wonderland By MARK NEUENS EAST BEND, NC, AUG. 4 Perfect weather and perfect track conditions made for a great day of racing for the final round of East Bend Speedway's AMA Summer Series. Some 58 riders went the distance to get one of the series trophies, which that started at 5 feet tall. These trophies are the best in the district! In a battle that continued from the night before, Jeremy Aliison took the first 125cc Be1ass holes hot, followed by Noah Huskey, lack Kutschenko, Edward Humphrey and Shawn Neilsen. Kutschenko went right to work, showing a tire to Huskey. Neilsen went to work on Humphrey and made the pass. Kutschenko tried to take an outside line on Huskey but couldn't hold it. He tried again in the whoop section, but Huskey stili held his lead. Aliison was stretching out his lead, while Neilsen came up beside Kutschenko and made the pass. Kutschenko grabbed a handful of throttle and took his position back as they went side by side though the doubles. Neilsen waited until they hit the whoops to make the pass on Kutschenko and then set his sights on Huskey. Then Huskey slid out in the turn and Neilsen was right there to take advantage of e n e _ OS Lodl Cycle Bowl: Tony Souza Jr. is in contention for the number-one plate in both District 36 and WCFTS racing.
