Stephen Scott taking first and second, in front of Bud Riddle and Mike Vaii. Vintage C rider Scott Avist got the holeshot and the victory, in front of Geoffrey Quinn, and Robert Scally rode a great race, taking the checkers first in the Vintage A class. Joe Trethaway enjoyed victory again this week, in front of Bud Riddle, in the Vintage Over 50 class, and Avist easily won the Vet Over 40 C contest. Young Joe Hernandez rode another great race, passing two other riders to win the 125cc class, and Scally came back to win the Vet Over 40 class. Another rider enjoying great success this season is Tony Souza of the Souza Racing team, sponsored by Motion Pro, Bieffe, AFAM and Rodman Custom Designs. Riding a CCMsponsored bike this week, Souza went into tum one of the Open A contest in the second position, behind Robert Bacosa, but he worked his way around to take the lead by the fourth lap. Souza began racing when he was 4 at Lodi Cycle Bowl, winning a Grand National 50cc Championship when he was 6, but his greatest accomplishment was becoming a national rider this year. Souza mentioned that without his dad, Tony Souza Sr., an accom· plished motocross rider and Junior's tuner, he would not be where he is today. His future goals include acquiring more sponsorships and riding the national circuit. To date, in District 36 and the WCFTS, Souza is in contention for the number-one plates, with third-place points in District 36 and second-place points in the WCFTS. He placed second in WCFTS in 2001. At the races, if he's not on his bike, you'll find him in his pit with his dad. mom and sister - who have been at his races week after week for 16 years - and his wife by his side and his little girl on his arm, while his granddad's sitting in the grandstands. Whether winning or losing, on or off the track, Souza always presents himself as a gentleman and a sportsman in the truest sense of the word. Results: P/W STK A: I. Michael Martin; 2. Lawrenceburg Motorcycle Speedway The 8's Wax 'em By JOHN SPURRIER LAWRENCEBURG, IN, AUG. 9 It was a good night for racing at Lawrenceburg - especially if your iast name started with the letter B. Pat Behrle won the Pro-Am feature and the Combo feature, Mike Butler won the Open A Feature, Butler's son Andrew dominated the 50cc feature, and Joey Britton won the 125cc feature. It took two starts to run the Pro-Am feature. On the first attempt, everyone but Sam Lowe jumped the light; as a result, Lowe was the only rider on the front row when the race started. Lowe led for the first few laps while Behrle worked his way up from a third-place start. Behrle got by Nick Hummel and then caught up to Lowe, and the pair engaged in several laps of side·by·side racing until Behrle took the lead. At the finish, it was Behrle with the win, followed closely by Lowe, lach Palmer, Hummel and Kevin Hilbert. Mike Butler scored an impressive win in the Open A feature, getting the holeshot and going wire to wire over Joel Brown, Joe Matthews Sr. and the rest of the field. Matt McQuillan was equally dominant in the Over 30 feature, over Pete Sheppard, Jeff Ogden and the rest of the 12-rider field. r------..,.--- I I I I I I I I For FASTEST sel'lllce attach mailing label.
