NV, JULY 27 Las Vegas Motor Sport's hotshoe Tommy Ramirez recently moved up from starching the 125cc Beginner class into the tougher 125cc Novice division. It didn't take him long to find his way to the head of the class, as he threw "snake eyes" at his competit ors on his way to the overall. He started off on the right foot, leading O'Neal-s ponsored TlIylor Gilmore and the rest of the field out onto the course. Cycle Gear's Kris Higdon and Nevada Suzuki- backed Patrick Provenc her stormed into second and third and were pressurin g Ramirez for the lead. Provenc her battled past Higdon and, as the race reached its dosing stages, was wheel to wheel with Ramirez for the victory. In a tandem finjsh, Ramirez took the win by a nose over Provencher, with Higdon leading Gilmore and Snap-On Tools rider Brian Fowler across the line. Ramirez fired out again in moto two, with Fowler and Higdon trying to chase him down. Ramirez kicked it up a notch, as Provench er hBd moved up and was trying to find a way around Fowler. Ramirez had it wired, as the GS3 Clothing -backed rider took an easier win this time out - and the overall 125cc Novice trophy. Provenc her got past Fowler on the white-fla g lap to take second and second 72 AUGUS T 28. 2002 ' cue I e Glen Helen Racewa y Park Farr ell's Fast at REM Sum mer Seri es By ROCKY HASH Las Vegas Motor Speedw ay: Alex Mattson was the winner of the 85cc Stock (12-13) class at the fifth round of the eight-ra ce Club MX Beat The Heat Summe r Night Motocro ss Series in Las Vegas, overall, while Higdon topped Fowler and Pro X-sponso red Justin Hunt in the final tally. The 125cc Beginne r class was also having fun with Club MX on Saturda y night. They raced together with the 250cc Beginner s (but were scored separate ly), so, naturally , horsepower prevailed , as 250cc jockey Casey Rodman led the charge off the gate. Within a few turns, 125cc pilot Brian Brought on passed him, as did fellow 125cc rider Vincent Zampa shortiy thereafte r. Eric Campbe ll joined the lead pack, while Broughto n and Zampa were SAN BERNAR DiNO, CA, ,JULY 27 With round three marking the halfway point in Racing Enterpris es Motospo rts' fourth annual No Fear Saturday Motocros s Summer Series, there was a large turnout of riders, and while it eventual ly got warm, overcast condition s prevailed for most of the morning , making for excellen t racing condition s on the track. The series is sponsore d by White Brothers, Factory R&D, Pro Valve Race Service, ARC Levers, Superfeet, N-Style, Wiseco, One Industries, VP Racing Fuels, Smith, and Mechani x Wear. Racing was tight in the always-c ompetitiv e Vet Junior class, as 17 riders put a wheel on the gates this week. In the first go-aroun d, it was Yamaha YZF rider Carry Brown taking the holeshot . Tim Harris had his KTM 380 SX running in second, just ahead of Eric Wolfe. Dirk Davidow and Steve Reeves. Over the first few laps, Brown and Harris began to s;eparate themselv es from the pack in a battle for the lead. One rider who was not falling back was Brent Farrell, aboard his booming Husqvam a thumper . Farrell started outside the top five, but by lap three he was in third place and closing in on the leaders. At the halfway point, the battle for the point was a three-rid er affair, as Brown, Harris and Farrell all rode on the in a war for first. Broughton blasted around the course, Zampa hung on, and everyon e else disappea red from the rearview. Broughto n led Zampa through the checkers and Robert Otto nipped Campbe ll for third. It was big-bike- bully time again as 250cc rider Brian Child stuck his Y~maha out in front of Otto and the rest as race two fired off the line. Broughto n made an early move, passing for second, as Zampa came forward to sandwich Otto. As the race progressed, Broughto n and Zampa battled into first and second, while Otto was in a war with Jeff Morris. Broughto n and Zampa flashed through the pipes to go one-two, and one-two for the overall. Morris led Otto for third, but Otto beat him out for third overall. Bobby Maguire rounded out the top five.
